All the Way to KINGDOM COME

All the Way to KINGDOM COME

The Kingdom is ComingThe Kingdom is HereThe Kingdom is Now

Jesus’ main message was the Kingdom of God.

• His central concept.

• His favorite subject.

• The reason he came.

We are his disciples. Shouldn’t it be our main message?

You may never fully understand some of the things we will discuss about the Kingdom of God… That doesn’t mean that you have not been in the Kingdom or living out the message of the Kingdom.

I have been studying this for the last 8-10 months while others have over past several years. Don’t expect to just immediately be where we are on things. We just want you to be Bereans.

Acts 17:10-11 As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and

Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. 11Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Be ready to see the relationship between the church & the Kingdom in a new way.

4. ConclusionA. The church is the kingdom of God on earth

The Kingdom is Coming

An Old Testament Vision of the Kingdom of God

Matthew 5:17

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

Matthew 4:13-17 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali-- 14to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah: 15"Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, along the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles-- 16the people living in darkness have seen a great light;on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." 17From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near."

Matthew 4:23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

Mark 1:15 "The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"

Jesus main message:

The Kingdom

His ministry is going to fulfill the Laws and the Prophets.

Psalms 103:19 (NIV) 19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.

The term “Kingdom of God” or “Kingdom of Heaven” not found in the Old Testament.

Exodus 19:3-6: 3 Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, "This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4 'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites."

A kingdom of priests

Isaiah 61:1-10 (NIV) 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,

5 Aliens will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards. 6 And you will be called priests of the Lord, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast.

Present age Age to ComeMark 10:29-31 "I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields--and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life.”

The church, citizens of heaven, under the reign of God—foreigners and strangers in this world.

We must be living as disciples1 Peter 2:21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for

you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. (In his steps--- context : suffering)

• Living as citizens of heaven• Living as a kingdom of priests

THE KINGDOM OF GOD

1 Peter 2:9-11But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

Salt of the Earth and Light of theWorld

Matthew 5:13-16 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. [14] "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. [15] Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. [16] In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Salt of the earth1. A nation with salt was considered rich

2. Among various tribes a bag of salt was more valuable than a man

3. Certain trading routes were known as “salt routes.”

4. Countries went to war over salt (like oil today)

Salt of the earth1. Salt was used as preservative

2. Salt was used for healing

3. As today, salt was used for flavoring

Salt of the earth1. Salt was used as preservative

2. Salt was used for healing

3. As today, salt was used for flavoring

Parallels1. Disciples stop the decay

2. Disciples bring healing

3. Disciples add zest and joy and life

What do salt and light have in common?

To make a difference they both have to penetrate.

Light out from under the cover.
