One school is guaranteed to win its third game of the season while notching its first conference victory of 2018 when UNLV (2-4/0-2) hosts Air Force (2-4/0-3) Friday night during Homecoming ... This will mark the first of three UNLV appearances this fall on CBS Sports Network ... The Rebels, who are 25-25 all-time in Homecoming games, are coming off a 59-28 loss at Utah State while the Falcons fell 21-17 at San Diego State ... Both teams have dealt with injuries at the quarterback position and with starter Armani Rogers out indefinitely because of a foot injury, it has now been 22 years since the same quarterback started every game of a season for the Rebels (Jon Denton 1996) ... Rogers was ranked in the top 10 in the nation with 122.0 rushing yards per game when he was knocked out of action ... RB Lexington Thomas, who himself missed the second half of last week’s game vs. the Aggies, sits first in the MW and 29th in the country with 92.0 YPG ... Thomas (552 yards in 2018) recently became the second player in school history to run for at least 500 yards in four different seasons, joining all-time leading Rebel rusher Tim Cornett (2011-14) ... Lex needs 110 more yards to move past two-time All-American Mike Thomas into second place on UNLV’s career rushing list and is one 100-yard rushing game short of tying Cornett (16 in 2011-14) for second on the school’s career list ... As a team, UNLV continues to lead the MW and sits eighth in the nation with 257.2 yards per game rushing ... UNLV has both made 123 first downs and allowed 123 first downs through the first half of the season ... Under new coordinator Tim Skipper, UNLV’s defense equaled its QB sack total from a year ago with 11 in the first four games. REBELS vs. FALCONS NOTES... In a series that dates back to 1981, Air Force leads 15-6 and has won the last two ... These teams have played on a Friday once before with host UNLV taking a 42-39 season-ending thriller on Nov. 24, 2006, to break a 10-game losing skid ... Air Force has served as the opponent for a UNLV Homecoming one other time and the Falcons took that one 29-28 on Oct. 18, 2008 ... Because of divisional scheduling in the MW, this marks the first trip to Las Vegas for the Falcons since 2014 ... In this high-flying series the winning team has averaged 38 points and never scored less than 24 ... AFA is the only service academy team UNLV has ever met on the football field.

LOS ANGELES (UNLVRebels.com) - Playing at the famed LA Memorial Coliseum for only the second time, the UNLV football team opened its 51st season Saturday afternoon by giving No. 15/15 USC all it could handle before the Trojans pulled away with 24 points in the fourth quarter for a 43-21 victory.

REBEL NOTES

- UNLV outrushed USC 308 to 219 on the day.- Lexington Thomas’ 71-yard scoring scamper marked the ninth touchdown of 55 yards or longer by the senior, including seven in just the last 13 games.- Quarterback Armani Rogers, who graduated from Los Angeles Hamilton High School, rushed for 82 net yards despite being sacked five times, and threw for two touchdowns despite finishing with just 97 yards through the air.- UNLV PK Evan Pantels’ 39-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter marked the first time the senior missed an attempt of 39 or shorter as a Rebel, having come in 23 of 23 under 40.- The Rebels pulled off a fake punt to set up a touchdown in the second quarter when Evan Austrie ran for 36 yards and the first down.- Senior captain safety Dalton Baker turned in 11 total tackles while junior cornerback Jericho Flowers finished with 10 to go with two pass breakups.-Opening on the road vs. a ranked opponent for the first time since 2011, the Rebels fell to 5-40 all-time vs. ranked opponents and 4-16 vs. Pac-12 opponents who were in the league at the time of the game.

GAME 1

Competing in sunny and humid conditions, UNLV got off to a miserable start, fumbling away t he football on the very first play of the season. The Rebel defense responded, however, holding the Trojans to a subsequent field goal – the first of four three-pointers for the home team in the first half alone.

UNLV twice quieted the crowd by taking the lead before halftime, first when Lexington Thomas raced for a 71-yard touchdown on a fake reverse to make it 7-6; and then when Armani Rogers found Kendal Keys for a 31-yard scoring strike to make it 14-9. The Trojans eventually led by five at the break and, after a scoreless third quarter, outscored UNLV 24-7.

THE TURNING POINT: Leading 14-12, UNLV had all the momentum late in the second quarter while driving to the USC 20-yard line. That’s when the Rebels missed a 39-yard field goal attempt and the Trojans responded with a 79-yard touchdown drive to take a 19-14 lead, which they never relinquished.

STAT OF THE GAME: USC kicker Chase McGrath made all five of his field goals and four extra points for 19 total points. The five three-pointers tied the record by a UNLV opponent (BYU’s Owen Pochman in 1999).

REBEL OF THE GAME: Lightning struck at the Coliseum when Lexington Thomas ran for 136 yards on just 14 carries. It marked the senior’s 13th career 100-yard effort, which ranks third in school history and moves him to within four of tying the Rebel record of 17 set by Mike Thomas in 1973-74.

It marked his third 100-yard rushing game as a Rebel, which tied the school record by a quarterback (Jason Thomas had three from 2000-02). - Senior Lexington Thomas posted his 14th 100-yard rushing game with 127 on 17 carries, including TD runs of 40 and four yards. He now sits just three scores away from tying Mike Thomas (1973-74) for the most in UNLV history. - Thomas also moved up one spot on the career rushing yardage list. LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -- UNLV (2-1) improved to 2-0 at home for the first time in a decade with a 46-17 victory over Prairie View A&M (1-3) Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium. Sophomore Armani Rogers tied a school record with four rushing touchdowns and broke the UNLV mark

REBEL NOTES

- UNLV won consecutive home games for the first time taking three straight in 2013.- The Rebels improved to 2-0 vs. PVAMU and 5-0 vs. teams currently in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The 44-year drought between games with these two schools was the longest in UNLV history.- UNLV, which downed UTEP in Game 2, played opponents from Texas in back-to-back weeks for the first time since 1999 when the Rebels won at North Texas and Baylor in successive outings.- Lexington Thomas’ moved past Dominique Dorsey (2001-04) into third place on the school’s career rushing yards list with 2,871.- Thomas recorded his 15th career 100-yard rushing game, which ranks third in school history and moves him to within two of tying Mike Thomas’ UNLV mark of 17 set in 1973-74. He is one short of second place (Tim Cornett 16 in 2011-14).- Thomas’ one-yard rushing TD gave him 32 in his career, which put him six short of Mike Thomas’ UNLV record of 37 set in 1973-74.- When PVAMU kicked the ball out of the end zone after a bad snap late in the game, it marked UNLV’s first safety since a game vs. Northern Illinois in 2014.- UNLV senior Evan Pantels saw his school-record streak of successful extra points snapped at 80 when his first attempt of the night hit the uprights. Pantels then missed a 24-yard field-goal attempt, which marked the first time he missed an attempt shorter than 39 yards in his collegiate career.

GAME 3

Facing the Panthers for the first time since 1974, UNLV led 20-0 after the first quarter and went into halftime leading 34-0 powered by three straight rushing scores by Rogers.

STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV boasted two 100-yard runners for the second consecutive week (Rogers with 122 and Thomas with 124) en route to out-rushing PVAMU 318-99. LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Combating swirling winds and the need to replace its starting quarterback, UNLV (2-3/0-1) opened Mountain West play by being thumped 50-14 by New Mexico (3-2/1-0) Saturday afternoon at Sam Boyd Stadium.

With starter Armani Rogers – who came in to Saturday

REBEL NOTES

- UNLV came into the game ranked third in the nation in rushing with 336 yards but could only manage 43 against the Lobos after 43 yards lost on sacks were included. - Senior running back Lexington Thomas, who entered 14th in the nation with 116 yards per game, finished with just 36 yards on six.- Senior safety Dalton Baker led all players with 14 total tackles while safety Javin White had 10 takedowns, 1.5 TFL and two forced fumbles.- UNM evened the all-time series between the teams at 12 after winning its second straight trip to Las Vegas.- The Rebels fell to 13-24 in conference openers, including 9-10 when they happen at home.- Fourth-year head coach Tony Sanchez lost a Mountain West opener for the first time.

GAME 5

eighth in the nation in rushing -- sidelined indefinitely with a foot injury, sophomore Max Gilliam made his first Division One start and the offense struggled to net just 43 yards on the ground. Gilliam completed 15 of 35 attempts for 123 yards, including two touchdowns, but was sacked five times. Receivers Brandon Presley and Darren Woods Jr. each found the end zone for the home team in the fourth quarter.

The balanced Lobos took advantage of every opportunity, scoring 13 points off of turnovers and running for 252 yards and passing for 250. After a scoreless first quarter, the visitors put up 29 points in the second and never looked back.

STAT OF THE GAME:At halftime, New Mexico had 15 first downs to UNLV’s one.

REBEL OF THE GAME:Even while spending half the game kicking into the extreme winds, punter Hayes Hicken finished with an average of 42 yards on nine attempts, including a long of 66. He also successfully converted a fake punt in the third quarter by running for 14 yards.

LOGAN, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) – Surging Utah State (5-1/2-0) continued to build its case as the Mountain West’s best team with a 59-28 victory over UNLV (2-4/0-2) on a mostly gloomy and cold Saturday at Maverik Stadium.

REBEL NOTES- Tyleek Collins’ 139 yards receiving marked the first 100-yard receiving game for a Rebel since Darren Woods Jr. went for 114 yards at New Mexico in Game 11 of 2017- UNLV made its first appearance in Logan since 2014- USU blocked a Hayes Hicken punt attempt and ran it into the end zone to mark the first punt return for a score by a Rebel opponent since a game at Utah in 2004- The Aggies improved to 17-7 vs. UNLV all-time in what was their fifth straight victory in the series- Despite missing half the game because of injury, Lexington Thomas became only the third Rebel in history to reach the 3,000-yard career rushing mark. The senior now has 3,040 and joins Tim Cornett (3,733 from 2010-13) and Mike Thomas (3,149 from 1973-74)- Thomas’ first-quarter touchdown gave him 34 for his career, which is just three away from Mike Thomas’ school record set more than four decades ago

The Aggies won their fifth straight while the Rebels lost their third consecutive outing despite jumping out to 7-0 lead on a one-yard Lexington Thomas touchdown in the first quarter. USU, however, soon scored 28 points in a span of less than six minutes to build a 42-7 halftime lead. Thomas, who came in averaging 100 yards per game, had 51 yards on 12 carries when he was knocked out of the game with an injury in the first series of the second half. Max Gilliam, making his second start after the loss of quarterback Armani Rogers to injury, completed 18 of 36 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns despite being sacked seven times and picked off once. Rebel safety Javin White led the way defensively with 10 total tackles, including 1.5 TFL. STAT OF THE GAME: 12 different Utah State players made at least one reception as Aggie QB Jordan Love tied a school record with five touchdown passes. REBEL OF THE GAME: True freshman Tyleek Collins had a breakout game with 139 yards on four receptions, including a 79-yard catch and score. He also rushed twice for 20 yards.
