STATE OF MICHIGAN – DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES – www.michigan.gov/dnr FENNVILLE FARM MANAGED HUNT UNIT in ALLEGAN STATE GAME AREA

SPECIAL USE AND HUNTING RULES

All other applicable State Land Use rules and regulations apply, unless modified by the text below. To review the standard “Wildlife and Game Area - State Land Rules” (doc# IC 2598), see the back of most State Wildlife/Game Area maps (except those with Special Use and Hunting Rules, like this page); maps, rules and regulations, and more information on this and other areas are available at DNR Offices or on the internet at http://www.michigan.gov/dnr . NOTE: It is your responsibility as a user of public lands, to ensure you are informed of all current rules and regulations relevant to your activities. The information presented here represents some details relevant to land use, but this is not a complete list of all rules and regulations, and may not be as immediately updated as current legislation and rules. This product is not a legal notice, nor a complete collection of hunting regulations and laws. It is a condensed tool issued for convenience on this specific subject. Contact your local DNR office if you have questions, or to verify regulations relating to possible activities before engaging in those activities. The DNR is on the internet at http://www.michigan.gov/dnr .

If you have questions or comments about the area or its management, please contact: Allegan State Game Area Headquarters, 4590 - 118th Avenue, Allegan, MI 49010 ; phone (269) 673-2430.

SPECIFIC RULES AND PROCEDURES: 1. During the Allegan Local Goose Management Unit (GMU) season, you may not enter any area posted “State Game Area - HUNTING

BY PERMIT ONLY” without a valid permit. Permits are issued at the Allegan SGA Fennville Farm Unit Headquarters located on 118th Avenue, about 1 3/4 mile west of 57th St.

2. Any alterations to any permit not endorsed by DNR personnel render the permit invalid. 3. During Allegan Local GMU season, a general drawing to issue daily hunting permits will be held each day. Gates into the drawing area will

close each morning at 5:30 a.m or 11:00 a.m. Drawing times are stated in the annual Waterfowl Digest. The entire party must arrive and receive a registration card before the drawing, to be eligible for that day’s drawing. Once the gates are closed, the hunt party order for choosing hunting posts or zones will be assigned by posting random number lists, during the announcements of special conditions.

4. All parties registered and present at the general drawing have an equal chance for permits. 5. At drawing time, assemble at the office. When your draw number is called, you must enter the office to choose a zone, or re-issue.

Your card must be completely filled out for all members of your party at this time, and all members must be present, or your party will be ineligible. When you have chosen a hunting station, your registration card will be validated as a hunting permit, and the back portion will be returned to you.

6. Hunting parties must have a valid daily permit in possession while hunting geese and must hunt from within the Farm Unit zone corn strips, where provided. Permits are valid for waterfowl only, and only hunt from the hunting station as designated on your permit.

7. No person may have in their possession or fire from their shotgun, while afield in a permit area, more than 15 shot shells while hunting under authority of a hunting permit. No lead shot or lead buckshot may be in possession – see #1 below.

8. The hunt is terminated upon leaving the assigned hunting station (except during setup or to retrieve downed game). 9. Goose hunting ends at 2:00 p.m. on days with 5:30 a.m. drawings, and goose hunting ends at closing time on days with 11 a.m.

drawings. Morning and afternoon youth waterfowl hunts may not be on the same day – ask office for details. 10. Hunting permits must be returned to the Fennville Farm Unit Headquarters with all hunting information completed before leaving

the Managed Area. Failure to complete and/or return hunting permits may result in a citation and/or restriction of further hunting opportunities on the managed area.

11. Any hunting stations left open following a drawing, or as hunters return hunting permits, will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis through re-issue until 11:30 a.m. on days with 5:30 a.m. drawings and until 2:30 p.m. on days with 11:00 a.m. drawings. 12. Youth Day(s) shall be as posted. ONLY hunting parties of a maximum of 6, with up to 4 youths (10-16 yrs old) accompanied by 1 or

2 adults (17 yrs or older) with appropriate hunting licenses and stamps will be eligible for the general drawing and day’s hunt. 13. Follow all general area rules and procedures, both in this list and in the standard guidelines.

Additional rules will be posted at the Farm Unit Headquarters.

REGARDIING DEER HUNTING: Firearm deer hunting, including muzzleloaders, is not permitted in the Farm unit during the area open goose season.

GENERAL RULES AND PROCEDURES: 1. It is unlawful to use or possess any shot, whether loose or loaded in shot shells, of a material other than federally approved non-

toxic shot, except single projectile loads. BBB is the largest shot size permitted.(See the Michigan Wildlife Conservation Order sections 3.411 and 3.414 for details).

2. You may enter posted retrieving zones only to retrieve “downed” game. 3. In Zones 2 to 8, there is a “quiet” hour between 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on days with a 5:30 a.m. drawing, no hunting permitted at this time.

No hunting in Zones 2 to 8 on days with 11 a.m. drawing, except by permit issued through the drawing (see details listed above). At other times, a current hunting license is your permit for any open season.

THESE ACTIVITIES ARE PROHIBITED: 1. Entering for any purpose the area posted, “WILDLIFE REFUGE - DO NOT ENTER.” 2. Shooting from parking areas except as prescribed under a Use (Handicap) Permit. There is no hunting or shooting from

any dike, road, trail, safety zone, or retrieving zone (such as near Refuge) posted against such use. 3. Constructing a shooting pit or permanent blind. Portable blinds are permitted, but must be removed at the end of each hunt. 4. Parking outside designated parking areas. See map for parking lot locations, or ask the Game Area Office. 5. Camping in parking areas - campsites are available at Ely Lake and Pine Point campgrounds. 6. Trapping, except under written permit. 7. Taking cans or glass bottles into the permit zones, to possess or consume alcoholic beverages,

or Littering (including spent shot shells). 8. Vehicle or horse use off county roads or out of designated parking lots, except as authorized by the Area Manager. 9. Use of Off-road vehicle (ORV) in Allegan State Game Area. – ORVs are unlawful in Allegan State Game Area. 10. 11. Other Rules and Regulations for the State Game Area may be posted in the area; look for additional signs or notices to insure you have a safe hunt. CAUTION: Use care near all water areas; some of areas may contain deep water, depending on season and rainfall.

BE A SAFE HUNTER - A safe hunter obeys laws governing hunting & boating, is alert to any conditions hazardous to safety of them & others. (Rev. 10/30/2014 –WLD/ MLS)
