Directions:

1. Log onto http://mhhe.com/biosci/genbio/virtual_labs/BL_25/BL_25.html or just type into google: energy in a cell virtual lab and the Mcgraw website will come up. Make sure to allow adobe flash to work.

2. Read the background information located on the right hand side and read the guide booklet located at the bottom of the screen

3. After reading all the information, solve the puzzle in correct order to show how energy is created in a cell.

4. Once you have solved it correctly snip the image of your puzzle into a word document. On your word document make sure to put you name in the header and type up the answers in complete sentences to the following post questions.

Snip the picture of you puzzle here !

Study the simple diagram below and answer the questions: The container contains a fish and a plant. The fish does not eat the plant, but is provided fish food.

1. What substance(s) will be given off by the aquatic plant?

2. What substance(s) will be given off by the fish?

3. What biochemical energy reaction(s) will occur in the fish?

4. What biochemical energy reaction(s) will occur in the plant?

5. What additional source of energy must be provided so both the fish and plant maintain homeostasis?

Post Lab questions: Type your answers and use a different color to make answers stand out!

1. What is the importance of the light and dark reactions in photosynthesis?

2. What is the energy conversion during photosynthesis? During cellular respiration?

3. Why is photosynthesis important to you?

4. What are the processes in cellular respiration?

5. Why are photosynthesis and cellular respiration viewed as complementary processes?
