PRELUDE

*CALL TO WORSHIP (Matthew 28:18-20)

Leader: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. People: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Leader: and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. People: And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

*HYMN PH 494 “Out of Deep, Unordered Water”

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, you came in Christ and were baptized by John in the river Jordan with people from all of Judea. You came to seek and save the lost. May we, who have also been baptized in Christ’s name, return to the river, not turning from the world but into it. As your love has reached out to us, let our love reach out to the world anxious to hear the good news. In your mercy, prepare us, cleanse us from anything that will keep us from you.

Silently confess your sin.

RESPONSE STF 2030 (“The First Song of Isaiah”)

Surely, it is God who saves me, I will trust and not be afraid. For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense,

And God will be my savior.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

Leader: Friends, believe the good news. People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!

*PASSING OF THE PEACE

RESPONSE STF 2002 (“I Will Call Upon the Lord”)

I will call upon the Lord. Who is worthy to be praised. So shall I be saved from my enemies. I will call upon the Lord.

The Lord liveth, and blessed be the Rock; And let the God of my salvation be exalted. The Lord liveth, and blessed be the Rock;

And let the God of my salvation be exalted.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Leader: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God People: It is right to give God thanks and praise.

*Profession of Faith (The Apostles’ Creed)

With the whole church, let us confess our faith.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
