Expectations and Requirements for ParticipationEnrollment in this course indicates that you want to learn. Arrive punctually and stay

for the whole class. Show consistent weekly attendance. As you will actively participate in hands-on experiences in class, your attendance is part of your grade. Thus, you will lose points if you miss any one part of it.

Be ready to participate in learning. You should read all materials and come to class prepared to share comments and questions. Critically analyze and follow directions for all assignments. Students are expected to use the Internet as a resource for locating and collecting information

Complete all homework assignments prior to class as instructed. Cell phones must be turned off or on silent. Unless you have an emergency, don’t interrupt the class with cell phone usage. If necessary, call home at break.

Ministerial Dispositions One defines the word disposition as conduct, demeanor, attitude, and habits. As an ANLI

student, we expect you to exhibit the below ministerial dispositions: attitude and characteristics of a servant leader in Christ; appreciation and respect for human diversity and a cross-cultural awareness; strong adherence to the regular practice of the spiritual discipline of prayer; commitment to a community of collaboration: unity, cooperation, respect, active

involvement and follow through; active involvement during in-class activities, including discussions; habits of mind for scriptural scholarship: inquiry, analysis, research and reflection; commitment to life-long learning for theological and spiritual growth and conscientiousness about following assignment directions and timelines.

PlagiarismBeing ethical is an important characteristic of Christian leadership. Work is expected to

be your own. Also, you cannot purchase, borrow, or copy from a former student’s work or it will be considered plagiarized. If you use other people’s ideas, publications, books, website material or works, etc. without proper citation, it will deemed as plagiarized; thus, make sure that quotes are properly cited according to procedures set in APA. If you plagiarize an assignment, the whole assignment may be graded an “F.” Students who plagiarize may fail the course.

Class attendance is vital to the success of your learning experiences at ANLI. As we design accelerated classes, six weeks in length, you must attend all of them. Even one missed class can set you behind in your studies. Accordingly, if you do not attend two sessions, you miss more than 30% of the total course.

Important Attendance Note: There is no tolerance for more than one absence during a six-week course. You will be dropped from the class upon the second absence and required to retake

the class. Once you miss a second session, you cannot attend further sessions during the

specific block. Three late arrivals or early departures of more than ten minutes, in any

combination, equal one absence.

ASSIGNMENT POLICIESGrading Policy

Content and quality of the work, as well as its timely completion, will be considered when assigning grades.

Submitting homework by the specified due date is critical. Late work will result in the loss of one letter grade. The student has one week to submit late assignments. Homework turned in after a week may not be accepted. Missed in-class assignments cannot be made up.

Assignment Formatting Policy: All assignments, unless otherwise specified, must be computer-generated and in APA

format. (See our website for APA guidelines and sample papers.) Professors will not accept handwritten assignments on those designated. You will

have to do the paper over and the professor will mark the assignment as late. Keep in mind that papers should be printed with black ink and show Times New Roman typeset, 12-point font, and double spacing. Papers must have a cover sheet according to APA guidelines. Use the template on the ANLI website as a template, http://allnationsleadershipinstitute.org/current_students.

ASSIGNMENTS1. In-Class Activities (Weekly)

You will receive a total of six participation points for each session. All students must fully prepare to participate in all class activities.

Missed in-class, on-line activities cannot be made up. If you are late and/or leave early, the instructor will deduct participation points for

2. Journal (Weekly)The personal reflection and scriptural analysis will be combined into the weekly

journal packet. Both must be typed. Download the finished document to your E-Portfolio to me by 7 p.m. of the day of which the assignment is due. If you download your assignment after the due date, I will consider it late. Please note that all ANLI teachers use a standard grading rubric for the personal reflection and scriptural analysis. You can find these in the appendix of this syllabus and on the ANLI website.

A. Personal Reflection (275 Words) Must be typed. Personal reflections allow you to express what impacted you most from the lesson.

This writing opportunity is a time for you to reflect on how the lesson topics can be applied to your daily life or how you can strengthen your walk with Jesus. Every week you will self-reflect on questions that relate to the lesson. Please see the appendix for the reflection grading rubric.

B. Weekly Scriptural Analysis (275 Words) Must be typed. You will read, study, and analyze scripture from the lesson we discussed in

class. Please see the appendix for the scriptural analysis grading rubric. Use the online bible tool links listed on the ANLI website for resource links at http://www.allnationsleadershipinstitute.org/current_students

Note: During week three, you will participate in Bible Twitter Study on Facebook in the guided discussion area.

3. Daily Intercessory Prayer (Monday to Friday—75-100 Words)You will post daily prayer online on the class website. You may do this at any time of the

day. I will vary the situation of which you pray.

4. Personal Video Statement (Three Minutes in Length—April 29, Week Four)Video a personal statement of your philosophy of biblical servant leadership as

applied to being a pastor. It will be three-minutes in length. Submit a copy of it on a CD with your Philosophy of Pastoral Leadership essay. Select one of the topics below as the subject of the video:

Explain what you think servant leadership means in a 500-word expository essay. Use scripture to support your thesis statement. Do not use any outside sources.

All essays have basic components. Here are some tips for writing this essay: direct your response to your teacher; don’t use I; stay focused on the analysis and don’t get sidetracked on a different one; follow a clear plan of organization, such as an introduction, body paragraphs

and conclusion; show, don’t tell by using strong verbs and specific examples and details to

explain format it according to the APA directions; make sure you have the correct length and check your grammar, punctuation and spelling.

6. Seven-Minute Illustrated Sermon (Seven Minutes—As Assigned)You will present an illustrated seven-minute sermon on a topic

from class of which you select. Include I will present a sign up sheet in class.

7. Critical Research (750 words—Due May 13, Week Six) The topic will be related to topic of your illustrated sermon or the topic group

lesson. Include a cover page and references. You should incorporate all cited scripture in your references. Please see the appendix for the research paper grading rubric.

A research paper is more comprehensive than an essay. See below for tips in writing a research paper:

use APA formatting; include a cover page and reference sheet; although APA requires an abstract, you are not required to include one for this

paper; make sure you have a clear, deep understanding of the topic; start with an introduction and a thesis statement; select main points that support your thesis and elaborate on them, don’t write a

grocery list of points; know your topic at an in depth level; write about your topic in your own words and use quotes to support what you

say, rather than the quotes be the focus of your paper; be clear on how to cite and introduce quotes within the body of your paper so

that you don’t plagiarize and cite your sources in APA style and include a reference page.

I will assign each of you topic to the rest of the class. Your group will include a multimedia/fine arts component in the presentation (i.e power point, video clip, skit, etc). I will grade each of you as individuals and a group. Due Date: May 6th

The main purpose of this project is to provide you with the opportunity to interact in communal ministry and shared leadership. You all need to be leaders: support each other, be responsible for your project tasks, and communicate what you're doing to other team members. No one person should carry the work load. Think as team...Don't work in isolation of the other team members.

Here are some tips for working in a successful group project: be clear on your instructor’s directions and ask him or her for assistance if you

are not sure about what to do, not another student; work together as a team; share the load in equal portions; plan ahead on what has to be completed and don’t wait until the last minute to

finish the project; don’t change anything in the project and presentation without first consulting

the other team members; make sure you properly cite other people’s work (even in your handouts) and edify each other.

Written Assignment Formatting You must type designated homework assignments. E-mail assigned homework to me by

7 p.m. at [email protected] and bring a hard copy of the assignment to class.

Use APA style for typed assignments, with Times New Roman typeset, 12-point font, and double spacing. Papers should be borderless with one-inch margins. There are several Internet websites that you may use as a reference to APA. Further, you can find procedural information and models of APA manuscripts on the ANLI website.

As your professor, I will deduct points from the overall grade for assignments not correctly completed in APA format.

Grade DeterminationEach assignment is graded with a maximum number of points. The cumulative total

Reminder on Assignments and Homework! Missed in-class assignments cannot be made up. Submitting homework by specified due date is critical. Homework is due at the start

of class. It is considered late if it’s submitted after the specified time. Late homework will result in a drop of one letter grade. Additionally, homework
