Circle Maps A way of visually organizing words or pictures Ways to use these concept maps: 1. Students draw a picture of something that begins with a letter or ends with a letter. 2. Students write words that begin with a letter or ends with a letter. 3. FOR VOWELS Students draw or write pictures/words that have the short vowel sound in the middle 4. FOR VOWELS Students draw or write pictures/words that have the long vowel sound in the middle Students will draw their pictures or write their words in the circle outside the letter but inside the outer circle. Once students do this enough, they will begin to organize thoughts on their own during free writing. You can use these with all content areas. Other ideas: Write a number, number word inside circle and kids will write ways to make that number outside. Write theme words inside such as “fall, winter, Christmas, etc. and kids can draw or write things that go with that category. For more ideas, please email me at [email protected] These can be used whole group, modeled during modeled writing or morning message, in literacy work stations, or as a formative assessment.
