Rail Safety Talk
After Monday morning’s assembly we welcomed Michelle and Luke from the
NSW rail Authority who came to deliver a power-point presentation and a rail
and train safety talk to our students. This talk was being delivered because
this is Rail Safety Week and many schools would be being given the same
important messages. Wellington was chosen with some importance because
our town has an important rail link passing through which supports travel and
transport to rural communities. We hope our students listened well and have
a balanced respect for the safe practices they need to know when near trains
or railway lines.
Eisteddfod In Full Swing
Our participation in the 2017 Wellington Eisteddfod is still going strong and
many of the children get so much joy out of their participation. It is an
educational experience and teachers are to be thanked for bringing this extra
-curricular activity to their students. Mrs Chick Jones is to be acknowledged
for her efforts too, for although she has had a stint in hospital and has had to
have been away for a while, she has ensured a continued support and has
helped build success into what we achieve. Good luck to classes still
performing and take pleasure in knowing that everyone gets to be on stage
and enjoy what they are doing.
I still Like To Replay The Video
Where the Variety Children’s Charities helicopter landed in our playground on
Central Grass on Thursday back in Week 3. I like to replay this image
because the sound captures the excitement of its arrival and the joy the
children. To see all this happen in our school as the first of the official party
arrived brought tears to the eyes of some observers.
Spelling Bee To find our School Champions
Unfortunately I was away last Tuesday and missed class competitors who
came together to determine our winners who would go off to represent our
school at a regional level. Congratulations to the winners in both the Junior
and senior divisions and to all who were at this special event who were there
to compete. This is an inter-school competition that can lead all the way to
the state finals in Sydney later in the year.
NAPLAN Reports Have Been Dispatched
Word has been received that our NAPLAN reports for parents have been sent
out to schools and we should be able to send them home by the end of this
week. Today we have live SMART data where we can examine all
performances right down to the level of the individual student. It takes time
to do our evaluation but we are anxious to get this process underway.
A Chat This Morning With Mrs Milgate
This quick chat revealed Mrs Milgate’s excitement that her girls’ soccer team
were about to play in the semi-finals against Middleton P.S. here in
Wellington. The girls had been so strong and so determined that they had
been able to maintain their winning streak. Sadly this was not to play out this
way as they went down two nil. Nevertheless we are very proud of our team
and the way they have conducted themselves in all their games. Good sports
all around we are very proud of them all and we know Mrs Milgate is a great
coach and mentor – it’s just that she didn’t wear her lucky pants today.
Tell Them From Me..
This term, our School will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent
survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (Teacher and
Parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers
questions about different factors that are known to impact on students
wellbeing and engagement.
Running this survey will help our School understand parents’ and carers’
perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include:
communication between parents'/carers and staff, activities and practices at
home and parent/carer views on the school’s support of learning and
behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our School make practical
improvements.
The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets,
laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to
complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted
between 21 August and 13 October. Although participating in the survey is
entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.
Our School will provide further information about how to access the survey.
In the meantime, more information about the survey is available at:

Premier’s Spelling Bee 2017
The Premier’s Spelling Bee was introduced in 2004 as a fun and educational way for primary
school students to engage in spelling. The programme includes activities to encourage all
students to engage with spelling and to promote improved literacy in combination with the
English K-6 Syllabus.
Wellington Public School will this year participate in the 2017 Premier’s Spelling Bee. The
competition comprises of two divisions – Junior for Years 3 & 4 and Senior for Years 5 & 6.
Students have been selected from Spelling Bees held in classes at the beginning of Term 3;
notes will go home with successful students. Wellington Public School will hold their school
Spelling Bee on Tuesday 8th August 2017 in the Gould League Hall at 12.00pm, all parents
are welcome.
From the School Spelling Bee, two Juniors and two Seniors will be selected to then attend a
Regional Final knockout to be held on the Wednesday 14th September 2017 at Dubbo West
Public School.
The following students were successful and gaining a place in the Regional Finals to be held at Dubbo West Public School on the 6th September 2017. Congratulations to the following students and we wish them all the best:
Cody Conn and Khole Pascoe
Madelyn Leggett and Ryan Hyde
Kindergarten Purple have been very busy this term!
We always have fun in maths learning all about
numbers and recently we have been learning about
making groups of objects.
Last week all of Kindergarten went to
Wambangalang for a Teddy Bears’
Picnic, we learnt all about the things that
our teddy bears need - PAWS (Plants, air,
water and shelter)
This term during Creative Arts we have been
looking at different portraits and learning
about them. Last week Kindergarten Purple
looked at some of Picasso's art works. We
then created our own! They look fabulous!
BOOK WEEK IS COMING UP IN WEEK 6
AT WELLINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOL
25TH AUGUAST from 12pm, in the
GOULD LEAGUE HALL.
Let’s celebrate with a book parade! WPS is having it’s annual book
parade and students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite
book character. Every student dressed up will receive a participa-
tion certificate and one student from each class will receive a book
club voucher just for dressing up! Every student that dresses up will
need to bring a copy of the book or a print out of the front cover of
the book they are out of. You can borrow the book from our school
and town library or get a photo off the internet…
The winners of this year’s CBCA Book of the Year will be an-
nounced– we have been reading these books all term and the WPS
winners will also be announced! This year WPS Library will also be
holding a second hand bargin book sale, starting after the parade
and finishing a week later. Books will be $2 each and all money
raised will go towards buying new books for our library. After the
book parade parents, care givers and friends are welcome to bring
some lunch, eat with the students and visit the bargin book sale. It
will be a combined lunch for all students fron 1-1:30pm.
