UNDAY will mark the start of MalaysianPrime Minister Datuk Seri Najib TunRazaks first official four-day visit to

France to discuss bilateral, regional andinternational issues with top French leadersincluding President Nicolas Sarkozy and PrimeMinister Francois Fillon.

    S

France is one of Malaysia 's key tradingpartners with bilateral trade in 2008 reachinga total of RM13.91 billion. Currently, severalFrench companies operate in Malaysia

including Lafarge (cement), Technip(infrastructure for gas and oil exploration),Alcatel (telecommunications), Alstom (energyand railway equipment) and Carrefour(retail).

However what was omitted from mainstreamreports in Malaysia and France is that Najibsince assuming Premiership in March 2008 iseasily the most controversial Prime Ministersince political independence in 1957 as he hasbeen linked, through two policemen in charge

of his protection and according to thestatutory declaration of a private investigator,to a murder case. And we are not talking ofany normal murder case but the gruesomemurder of a beautiful Mongolian womanAltantuya Shariibuu connected to thepurchase of French submarines worth a billioneuros.

How is Najib linked then? Apparently, she wasintroduced by Najib to Abdul Razak Baginda,a close friend and defense analyst from the

Malaysian Strategic Research Centre think-tank, to work for the deal Baginda wasbrokering for the Malaysian government tobuy three submarines from France for onebillion euros. According to the same privateinvestigator, the duo quickly becameromantically involved.

In October 2006, Altantuya was informed thatthe commission of 114 million euros was paidinto the account of Perimekar, a companyBaginda controlled. Altantuya then went to

Kuala Lumpur to demand her share of thecommission, which was to have beenUS$500,000. She went missing on 19 October2006. In the last letter she wrote before hermurder, she said that she had beenblackmailing Baginda. The private investigatorwho linked PM Najib to Altantuya a few daysafter reneged on his first statement and thendisappeared.

The Malaysian police found fragments of herbone in a forested area in Shah Alam, some

30 km from Kuala Lumpur . Policeinvestigation revealed that she was shot twicebefore C4 explosives were used on herremains. Baginda and two members of thepolice force were arrested and charged forher murder. The two murder suspects AzilahHadri, 30 and Sirul Azhar Umar, 35 aremembers of the elite Unit Tindakan Khas (theMalaysian Police Special Action Force orcounter-terrorism unit) and were bothassigned to the office of the then DeputyPrime Minister Najib Tun Razak, who was alsothe Defence Minister. Both policemen werefound guilty and sentenced to death whileBaginda was acquitted. The MalaysianAttorney General has not appealed onBagindas acquittal and he is now a free man.

The father of Altantuya, Professor ShariibuuSetev who had tried but failed to seeksatisfactory justice and accountability inMalaysia will issue a statement in Paris tohighlight his daughters murder and how itslinked to the Malaysian Prime Minister and thebillion euro French submarine deal.
