1 Sphere measured using a single probe head position, 1δ sphere fit used for accuracy.

2 Sphere measured using five probe head positions, maximum 3D deviation of all five fitted sphere centres used for accuracy.

MPE E : maximum permissible error for length measurement

• Calibrated length bars (traceable through national standards) are placed in 7 positions within the machine volume. • In each position, 5 lengths are measured, from 30mm to a length not shorter than 66% of the longest machine diagonal up

to a maximum of 2m. • Each bar is measured 3 times making a total of 525 measurements. • None of these measurements must exceed the calibrated length of the artefact by more than the MPEE statement.

MPE P : maximum permissible probing error

• A calibrated sphere (diameter 10mm to 50mm) is placed in the centre of the machine volume. • The sphere is probed by touch points in 25 positions. • From these points, a Least Squares sphere is fitted through the points. • The maximum radial distance from all the measured touch points, struck from the centre of the fitted sphere must not

exceed the calibrated radius of the artefact by more than the MPEP statement.

MPE THP/time : maximum permissible scanning error

• A calibrated diameter 25mm sphere is placed in the centre of the machine volume. • The sphere is probed by four scans with a 10mm clearance move between each scan.

• From these scans, a Least Squares sphere is fitted through all the scanned points.

• The maximum radial distance from all the measured scan points, struck from the centre of the fitted sphere, must not

exceed the calibrated radius of the artefact by more than the MPETHP statement.

• The time to complete the test MUST be recorded. The accuracy result is not valid without the time.
