making several changes to it. When you are done, the book will no longer function as the original book.

Step One:Choose a THEME to create a sense of cohesion

throughout your book. Decide on this BEFORE you begin!

Examples: sharks, Harry Potter, movie villains, poetry, relationships, superheroes, travel…

Step Two: ModificationsThere are many ways to modify your book to make it your own, such as…

Pockets/Envelopes


Cut-outs


Folding, cutting, and tearing pages


Using tea to create an “antique” look


Gluing on fabrics, buttons, feathers, ribbons, etc.


Create a collage by cutting out pictures, magazines, words…


Glue on images (either photos, magazine cut outs, or print outs)


Bring an object from home to put into a cut-out window


Paint the pages with watercolor or acrylic paint, or draw using pencil, pen, colored pencils, etc.


Create pop-ups (can be simple or complex)

Criteria1. Choose a theme, and explore it throughout the book.2. Use a minimum of three different techniques throughout your book.3. Decorate a minimum of 3 pages in your book.4. Remember: the more detail, the better! Be elaborate! 5. Be creative, and have fun with it!
