We are pleased to present the seventh annual Anthology of Time, in which we feature some of the most exciting and awe inspiring collections from a selection of the brands we proudly represent. Even after a decade in this business, we continue to be impressed by the innovation in design and technology.

The trend to create thinner and stronger timepieces has continued by incorporating rare materials in production, with several brands expanding their development efforts to manufacture their own custom in-house movements. Manufacturing in-house movement requires hours of research and development combined with precise craftsmanship to design, develop, machine and assemble. The in-house trend has resulted in some truly astonishing, never before seen technological feats such as Girard Perregaux’s uncharted territory in the Constant Escapement or the complex and mesmerizing dual complications featured in Parmigiani’s Tondagraphe or Blancpain’s Tourbillon Carrousel.

PAYING HOMAGE TO HISTORY

Clearly represented in each signature timepiece, Audemars Piguet has a

history rich in design and execution. The Royal Oak, launched in 1972, claimed

its place as the fi rst prestigious sport watch. Fourteen years later marked the

launch of the fi rst tourbillon wristwatch, a decided departure from pocket

watch tourbillon manufacture.

Forty years later, Audemars Piguet presents the Extra-Thin Royal Oak Tourbillon.

The Calibre 2924 measures a mere 4.46 mm but maintains the exquisite fi nishes

heralded by the original Royal Oak. Combined with carefully chosen materials,

the three-quarter bridge marries sturdiness with thinness.

A pink gold case measuring 41 mm x 8.95 mm, and water resistant to 50 metres,

is graced by the collection’s signature octagonal bezel and a deep blue tapisserie

dial. In addition to the tourbillon at 6 o’clock, hours and minutes are displayed

along with a power-reserve indicator divided into fi ve segments, placed beneath

a sapphire crystal back in order to not disturb the elegant nature of the dial.

Also available in a steel version, The Extra-Thin Royal Oak Tourbillon is a modern

classic sure to capture the admiration of all horologists.

AERONAUTICAL MASTERPIECE

Bell & Ross’ iconic Aviation Collection takes a cue from the cockpit to

incorporate the graphic style of navigation instruments. The gyrocompass

heading indicator is a vital instrument for fl ying, used during both manual

fl ight and autopilot to indicate course. Bell & Ross’ limited edition Heading

Indicator offers highly original and technologically sophisticated time display.

Housed within a 46mm case with screw-in crown, the dial features three

independent, concentric discs, graduated for hours and minutes. Precision

engineering ensures they are constantly parallel. The seconds are displayed in

the center featuring a yellow marker while the hour is indicated by the yellow

triangle on the outer hours’ disc. Minutes are read from the middle disc. Like

the original instrument, directional indications are also displayed on this disc

with yellow index marks engraved beneath the glass. The matte carbon case is

designed to make the dials easier to read by eliminating glare. Water resistant

to 100 meters, the Heading Indicator is an excellent choice for the adventurous.

The fi rst 99 will be offered exclusively in a lavish collector’s box, delighting

STUNNING DUET

The Collection Le Brassus Tourbillon Carrousel by Blancpain embodies

the Villeret collection’s aesthetic and adds not one, but two rotating

escapements: A tourbillon at 12 o’clock and a carrousel at 6 o’clock.

These two complications have never before been combined this way in

a single timepiece. While seemingly similar to the naked eye, a tourbillon

located at 12 o’clock uses a single source of power to move the balance

wheel and rotate the cage while a carrousel located at 6 o’clock uses two

sources of power, one for escapement itself and a second to regulate the

rotation of the enclosure.

In action, the beauty and intricacy of this piece are undeniable. While incredibly

captivating to watch both complications from the dial side, turn it over and fi nd an

equally beautiful decorated movement. The Calibre 2322 contains 379 components

and is hand-wound via the crown at 4 o’clock. Offered in rose gold, the 44.6mm

case houses a fan-guilloche inner dial and an outer grand few enamel chapter ring

with gold roman numerals marking the hours. For a fi nal touch of decadence and

elegance, Blancpain added alligator strapping lined with alzavel.

With a heartfelt desire to redefi ne luxury based on complementary perspectives,

A spectacular avant-garde design paired with high-tech motion propels

Girard-Perregaux’s Constant Escapement to new heights in Haute Hor-

logerie. Five years of research and development in a virtually unexplored

territory ensure the reliability of this signifi cant accomplishment.

Constant Escapement refers to a holy grail in mechanical watchmaking

that has puzzled watchmakers since the beginning of time: constant

force. The traditional heart of a watch is a regulating movement which

manages the fl ow and rate of energy. The principle of constant escape-

ment is that whatever energy is supplied

by the barrel is returned in constant

energy to the balance wheel. Symmetrical

double construction balances the forces

and the two escapement wheels, offer-

ing 7 days of power reserve. The watch

accuracy is stable during all the power

reserve while in a standard movement

(Swiss Lever Escapement), the watch

accuracy decreases with the power reserve.

The movement is showcased in a round and thin (48 mm x 8mm) white

gold case. The entire lower portion of the watch is reserved for the

Constant Escapement. With a hand-sewn alligator strap and folding clasp,

the model is offered in Girard-Perregaux’s Haute Horlogerie Collection.

“Traveller”…The name for Girard-Perregaux’s modern new time piece

says it all. Equally suited for travelers juggling two time zones or simply

for those who savor the journey of each passing day, Traveller is at once

both casual and elegant. Like its two models-one chronograph with

time zone indication, the other with moon phases and large date – the

collection builds on the brand’s iconic technical and aesthetic expertise.

The contemporary 44mm steel case alternates

polished with matte surfaces and smooth elusive

lines. Every single part of the watch is polished

by hand which includes the sophisticated, three-

dimensional structured dial. Some meridians

underline the travel-loving character of the

watch, while some elements coated with white

luminescent material offer a perfect readability

in the dark. It also contains the GP03300 self-wind-

LADIES FIRST

The roaring 1920’s were a time when women redefi ned themselves and

began donning wrist watches. In Glashütte, many years before the production

of men’s wristwatches began, a tradition calling for the manufacture of

ladies’ wristwatches was born. In time, women identifi ed their wristwatches

as a combination of jewelry and a convenient way to tell time.

Nearly a century later, Glashütte Original honors that tradition with the

Pavonina Collection, their fi rst collection devoted entirely to ladies timepieces.

Elegantly ensconced in a warm, red gold cushion-shaped 31 x 31 mm case, sits

the mocha brown dial-a-luxe backdrop to showcase 98 decadent diamonds set

as a stylized peacock tail. An additional 114 diamonds grace the sensual lines

of the case with an ornate, fl uted crown claiming its own diamond.

The Calibre 03-01 quartz movement is

developed in Glashütte, Germany. In fact,

all the moving parts, the plate and the

bridges are produced in Glashütte. The

IT’S COMPLICATED

Famed jeweler and watchmaker Harry Winston introduces, for the fi rst time,

two sophisticated Complications in a single timepiece: The Harry Winston

Ocean Tourbillon Jumping Hour. The jumping hour complication adds

interest to an already powerful visual experience-showcasing Harry Winston’s

skeletonized caliber HW4401 which required over 1500 hours of development.

While watch enthusiasts admire the history and craftsmanship of the

tourbillon, its visual effect is uniquely mesmerizing. Floating between

two sapphire crystal panes in an 18k white or rose gold 45.6 mm case, the

tourbillon has been suspended between two, hand-chamfered steel bridges

so it appears to fl oat freely, unconnected to the rest of the timepiece. The

secret? It is driven by a wheel nearly concealed by the minute track of the dial.

Additional hand-worked, open bridges are revealed in stark

contrast to the black sapphire dial which reveals the hour

through an aperture at 12 o’clock which jumps once per

hour. Unlike other jumping hour timepieces, the Ocean

Tourbillon Jumping Hour’s minute hand has been

specifi cally designed to never block the hour window.

THE EVOLUTION OF BIG BANG

The distinctive design of Hublot’s Big Bang Collection has evolved to include

the UNICO, a column wheel chronograph movement with a dual horizontal

coupling visible on the dial side, designed, developed and produced entirely

within the Hublot manufacture workshops.

Available in four models-Titanium Ceramic, Titanium, King Gold Ceramic

and King Gold-the new timepiece is the fi rst in a new line of Hublot products

designed to house all future versions of the UNICO movement.

The timepiece’s diameter measures a respectable 45.5mm with a fl yback

chronograph and newly designed screw-down crown. For the very fi rst time

since the creation of the Big Bang in 2005, the push-buttons are round. A skel-

eton dial showcases the technical brilliance of the in house developed Calibre

HUB124 offering and impressive 72-hour power reserve, along with an exposed

DARK INTRIGUE

The Aeroscope Chronograph, inspired by cockpit instrumentation, conjures

images of open sky navigation. Limited to 500 pieces, JeanRichard introduces

an all-black monochrome version named Neroscope. Except for the charcoal

arabic numerals on the dial, the entire piece is an intricate play on the

nuances of pitch black.

Incredibly light on the wrist, the 44 mm case is made of titanium and coated

in night-black DLC (Diamond-Like-Carbon). The cushion-shaped design has

been enhanced by varying vertical satin and sand fi nishes. Time is indicated by

means of a centrally positioned hour and minute hand and small seconds hand

at 3 o’clock. At 9 o’clock is the 30-minute counter and the chronograph’s 12-hour

counter is placed at 6 o’clock. The carbon fi bre pushers and large crown make

the chronograph functions and task of setting time easy.

Like all JeanRichard timepieces, the Neroscope features an in-house movement.

Caliber JR66 is automatic winding with 43 jewels and 42 hours of power reserve

when fully wound. The rubber strap, in the same hue, features

a fl owing stripe relief with double JR signature and double

deployment clasp for comfort and reliability.

Extremely unique, it encompasses the

mystery of black to accompany the

most intriguing of fl ights.

PARMIGIANI TONDAGRAPHE, HYPNOTIC BEAUTY

Added to Parmigiani Fleurier’s Haute Horologie Collection in 2009, the

Tondagraphe boasted two major new features: a s ophisticated complication

combining a chronograph and a tourbillon at six o’clock.

Capitalizing on its success, Parmigiani Fleurier has launched two editions

limited to ten pieces. The 2013 Tondagraphe fl awlessly combines the visual

beauty of the tourbillon with the technical prowess of the chronograph.

Comprised of 295 components, this piece clearly refl ects a master of crafts-

manship and artistry. The hand beveling of the two tourbillon bridges alone

requires 20 hours while the cage takes almost 40 hours. However, the tour-

billon requires the greatest skill and it is boldly displayed at 6 o’clock. The

snailed, 43 mm circular dial retains a sense of essential clarity with elegant

Parmigiani numerals and luminescent hands sitting above the two centered

second and minute chronometer counters. Available in two versions, one

with a black dial and the other with a white dial attached to Hermes alligator

INTRODUCING THE TURBINE CHRONO,

A NEW COMPLICATION FROM PERRELET

Perrelet launched its fi rst Turbine wristwatch, featuring their unique double-

rotor movement, in 2009. New for 2013, Perrelet demonstrates their

technical expertise by adding a new complication in The Turbine Chrono.

Adding a chronograph counter to such an iconic dial without detracting

from its identity presented a signifi cant challenge. The solution lies

in a series of superimposed effects: chronograph measurements

are indicated by a central seconds hand which runs over a large

inner bezel surrounding the dial, and by a central 60-minute counter

composed of two juxtaposed sapphire crystal elements. One, a

mobile, rotating disk, turns in the center of the other, a fi xed

ring marked with a red arrow bearing the inscription “Min.”

Because these chronograph counter elements are

transparent, the element of the dial-side Turbine

rotor, with its sweeping “blades,” remains easily

visible. The Turbine Chrono offers fi ve styles: Three

versions feature varying shades of steel, black and

white (one completely blacked-out) while two sophis-

ticated versions are enhanced with 4N pink gold. All

styles feature Perrelet’s signature black rubber strap.

Ulysse Nardin’s marine chronometers have long been hailed as world-

renowned measuring instruments. Paying tribute to the brand’s founder

and his quest for innovation and independence, this year’s Marine

Chronograph Manufacture features a new UN-150 movement and

Grand Feu enamel dial-manufactured entirely in-house.

The new timepiece bears signature trademarks of marine instruments:

a generous 43 mm diameter case ensuring legibility, a fl uted bezel,

a screw-locked crown guaranteeing water resistance, and solid lugs

for comfort and stability.

Its exceptional dial is crafted in Grand Feu enamel by Donze Cadrans workshops,

a Ulysse Nardin acquisition. Successive layers of enamel fi red with intense heat

ensures the stark black roman numeral hours,

railtrack minute circle and various counters clearly

emerge from the dial’s pure white background.

The new automatic chronograph caliber UN-150,

comprised of 322 components with a 48-hour

power reserve, displays the hours, minutes, and

small seconds. It also features a date aperture

and a chronograph displaying seconds in the

center, as well as minute and hour counters.

For almost a century and a half, the Manufacture Zenith has played an

Zenith Type 20 appeared on the instrument panels of a number of

planes beginning in 1938. The new Pilot : Montre d’Aéronef Type 20

GMT is a worthy successor to Zenith’s fi rst aviator watches.

While the simplicity of the matte black Arabic dial makes it an

everyday watch, the GMT second time zone function provides

technical sophistication. Steel Pilot features the brand’s in-house
