Nabila Khashoggi has long recognized the importance of organic and eco-friendly cosmetics, and her products are naturally derived and are cruelty-free. The beauty industry is infamous for using hundreds of thousands of animals each year in order to test cosmetics and personal care products. However, consumers are becoming increasingly more conscious about the importance of consuming cruelty-free products, and some beauty companies are beginning to respond by banning animal testing for their products. Today, there exists an array of sophisticated product tests that make animal testing redundant. One of these, developed by Pharmagene Laboratories in Royston, England, has the advantage of using only human tissue and sophisticated technology to understand the interaction between human genes and medical or beauty products. Both embryonic stems cells derived from animals that require no cruel forms of testing and human skin donated from surgical procedures or cadavers can be used to test products as well. Not only are these tests humane but they have also proven to cost less than animal testing and typically provide more reliable results.
