What’s New for 2020

Official UpdatesThe official ICD-10-CM addendum was posted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) website on June 20, 2019, identifying the changes to the ICD-10-CM code set for fiscal 2020, effective October 1, 2019, to September 30, 2020. These changes were made by the agency charged with maintaining and updating the ICD-10-CM code set, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), a section of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A summary of the changes is provided below:

15 Codes with a Change in ValidityNote: Validity changes are the result of codes being added to or deleted from the classification. Codes that change from valid to invalid allow the creation of a new subcategory to which new codes can be assigned that provide greater detail about the condition. Codes that change from invalid to valid are the result of subcategory codes being deleted from the classification, when the detail provided in those codes is no longer required.
