What is it?
1. 2nd Longest river in the world after the Nile.
2. Largest Drainage basin in the world (2,720,000 Sm)
3. Greatest by water flow.

1. Located in South America
2. Passes through 7 different countries: Guyana, Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil and Peru.
3. It runs through rainforest rather than roads or cities.
4. The largest city in the Amazon River is Manaus located in Brazil and its home to over 1.7 million people.

Facts
Fauna: more than 1/3 of all species of animals in the world live in the amazon rainforest. There are over 3 thousand known species of fish that live in the Amazon River and more are being discovered. Many other reptiles including the anaconda, which is one of the largest if not the largest snake in the world. Also, 20 percent of the worlds bird species live in the amazon rainforest, and 2 and a half million species of insects species and 40 thousand plant species

Problems in the Amazon River
1. Deforestation: deforestation is the basin causes erosion and soil loss, sediments in the river, unbalance in the vital ecosystem.
2. Destruction of fragile ecosystems
3. Pollution and quality degradation of water.
4. Constant gas released when substantial parts of the forest are cleared and burned may contribute to global warming through the greenhouse effect
