AMBASSADOR SCHOOL Inspire Inquire Innovate Ambassador School Literature Week 2015 The week beginning the 19th to 23rd of April 2015 was marked in the school event calendar as a celebration of all matters literary. English teachers meticulously planned the curricu- lum for the week to engage pupils of grade 1 to 8 in the study of varied authors and their celebrat- ed works. Students enjoyed reading and listening, enacting scenes from stories, conducting research on the life of the author, designing thematic book marks, book covers, attiring themselves and speaking about their favourite story book characters and extended their study into a form of writing. The Literature Week allowed for both an enrichment of the English curriculum as well as expanded the scope for an inter-disciplinary approach to the English language learning experience. Grade–wise Literature Week Enrichment Character Parade The Ambassador School campus came alive with creativity, vibrant colours and an interesting range of characters as part of the Character Parade 2015 held on the 21st of April. Characters came to life from a range of books written by various authors. Students dressed up at their favourite character from books of their choice and spoke a few lines on it. Some of the most appealing ones were Birbal, Lebo the Cop, Captain America, Willy Wonka, Charlie Bucket, Malefi- cent, Snow White, the Little Red Riding Hood and characters from the Harry Potter series. Shakespeare Drama Festival To mark this year’s Shakespeare Drama Festival Students of grade 7 and 8 enacted scenes from Shakespeare’s greatest works – Julius Caesar and the Merchant of Venice on the 23rd April 2015. The enthusiastic and energetic young students impressed the judges, Ms P Banerjee and Dr Smita Padmanabhan, with their acting skills and understanding of the Bard. Anaga Narayanan and Dhruv Gogia were adjudged as the best actors. Congratulations to the winners! Creative Writing Workshop Students of grade 6 and 7 were privileged to be part of a creative writing workshop conducted by Dr Smita Padmanabhan on the 23rd of April 2015. In a rare opportunity, pupils were able to break away from the typical classroom teaching methodology and gain from two splendid writing sessions that centered on the use of the sensorial approach to descriptive writing and the use of the elements of story writing to keep readers hooked. The beaming smile on the faces of those who attended evidenced the success of the workshops. The school community is grateful to Dr Smita Padmanabhan for sharing her expertise as a Professor of English Literature and for her continued support as a member of the school parent community. The workshop sessions: Grade 6 - Sketching a Character - Don't Tell Me - Show Me! Grade 7 - Story Writing - The Elements and How not to write.
