WHAT ARE AMENITY VALUES?

Amenity values are the natural or physical qualities and characteristics of an area that contribute to people’s appreciation and enjoyment of that particular environment. They are something that makes a place more pleasant to be in.

It is accepted that different places have different amenity values depending on the use of the place. For example, noisy farm machinery is accepted as part of the countryside environment, yet would be totally unacceptable in an inner city residential situation.

CAN YOU WORK OUT WHAT AN AMENITY VALUE IS?

Look at the sheet you have been given.

Circle for each statement whether you think it would be TRUE or FALSE when thinking of a residential (neighbourhood) environment, such as where you live.
