The Eastland DisasterFor an hour, while passengers wereboarding the steamship Eastland, on

this rainy but otherwise calm Saturday, the ship slowly rocked back and forthfrom starboard to port. The motion of

the boat, which was scheduled to takeemployees of the Western Electric Co.

on an excursion to Michigan City,Indiana, did not alarm the crew.

Please join John Boda on Friday, July22nd, at 10:30 a.m. in the Community

Room to learn more about thissignificant day in Chicago history.

Transportation NewsTom Coyle, aka, “our friendly

transportation guy,” will pick usup at the Renwick Building door

for all outings, medicalappointments, and Thursdayshopping trips. The Renwick

entrance has much more seatingavailable while waiting for our

departure time. If anythingchanges, we will keep you

informed! Thank you!

Open Dining ConceptWe are very excited to open our

new Wheatland dining roomstarting on Monday, June 27th.At that time we’ll discuss the

meal “reservation system,” andbegin our “Open Dining” programwhereby you can come down to

lunch daily anytime between11:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. Ahostess will seat you in the

dining room within a few minutesof arriving, and the dining roomservers will be ready to provide

great service. The new opendining program will give you

more flexibility to come down“anytime you want” for lunch, and not have to worry about ameal reservation. Overall, we

believe this open dining conceptwill give you more flexibility and

be a positive enhancement to ourCulinary program.

Community Room @ 10:30 a.m.The reason rhythm is such a powerful

tool is that it permeates the entirebrain. Vision, for example, is in one

part of the brain, speech another, butdrumming accesses the whole brain. The sound of drumming generateddynamic neuronal connections in all

parts of the brain. Rhythmic drumminginduces altered states, which have a

wide range of therapeuticapplications. Drumming creates asense of connectedness with self

and others. If you have never experienced a

drumming session with Mary Helen,Music Therapist, please give it a try!
