Talk About It

Put Dry Skinto Rest

The dry air fromindoor heatingsystems can causeitchy skin andchapped lips. Tend toboth by keeping abottle of body lotionand a tube of lip balmon your nightstandand apply thembefore bedtime. Yourskin and lips will soakup the moisture whileyou sleep.

Protect YourselfKeeping fit during

winter is just asimportant as at anyother time of year. Ifyou exerciseoutdoors and yourusual workout time isnow plunged intoseasonal darkness, wear reflectiveclothing to keepyourself visible andsafe. If you areoutdoors during theday, remember toapply sunscreen toexposed skin. Youcan get sunburn inthe winter, too. Infact, sunlightreflected off snowcan be particularlyintense.

Mardi GrasJoin us Tuesday, February 28th,

at 2 pm when we celebrate MardiGras! We hope to see you here!

Fat TuesdayMardi Gras, or the last day of

Shrovetide, is the final celebration offeasting before the fast of Lent. Ittakes place between Epiphany andAsh Wednesday, the official start ofthe Roman Catholic Lenten season. Itoriginated in Rome as a pagancarnival and spring fertility rite. Thefirst American Mardi Gras wascelebrated in 1699, 60 miles south ofpresent-day New Orleans. Today, thebiggest parades occur in NewOrleans, Brazil, France and Germany.

A Warm InvestmentIf your hands and feet tend to get

cold, try wearing a fleece vest. It willinsulate your body’s core, specificallythe heart and lungs, and in turn, warm the blood flow to yourextremities.

Sweets to the SweetThe tradition of gifting chocolate candy in heart-shaped boxes can be traced

back to Victorian times. Richard Cadbury, of England’s famous family ofchocolate makers, began packaging their sweets in decorated boxes shapedlike a heart, which Cadbury himself designed. The artful containers were oftensaved to hold keepsakes. Today, 36 million heart-shaped boxes of candy aresold each year for Valentine’s Day.

To Your Health: Give It a ShotWe all know children receive a variety of vaccinations to help them stay

healthy. But it’s important to remember that adults need to boost their immunityoccasionally, too. Whooping cough, tetanus, diphtheria and shingles are someof the diseases that can affect unprotected adults. Check with your health careprovider to see if you need a booster.
