Dear AMA Members and Students,

Welcome to AMA! I am so excited to be able to partner with you for this upcomingyear at CSULB. Our Executive Board has spent all summer long to prepare anawesome schedule that includes socials, community service, internships, the AMAInternational Collegiate Conference just to name a few.

During the summer, the E-board got together to address some things that coulduse some tinkering. The mutual consensus was that we all wanted to establishAMA not just as a business organization, but also as a family. Though we are stilldedicated in providing you the upmost professional development, we will all stiveto get to know all of you on a personal basis. We would like to shed any inkling ofa cold exterior shell, and pursue a community-styled organization that puts apremium on member involvement.

To accomplish this, we have really retooled our agenda to make everythingdirected at not just group development, but growth for the individual. I am excitedto present a new venture CSULB AMA will be creating. We are starting a club-runmarketing agency that will be involving our members in various committees. Asthe year gets situated we will be rolling or more detailed information.

Every Spring, CSULB sends representatives to New Orleans, LA for the AMAInternational Collegiate Conference. At that conference, students have theopportunity to attend professional workshops, listen to professional marketers, and most of all network with college students like us. In the past, CSULB AMA hasdone exceptionally well and has won many awards. This school year we want tobreak all the records and send more than 50 members! The bar is set high, but withthis excellent Executive Board and your involvement, the sky is the limit!

So I can’t wait to meet you. And if you were able to get all the way through thisletter, please come up and say hi to me.

Best regards,Steven LeePresident

Dear AMA Members and Students,

On behalf of the E-board and myself I would like to welcome all of you to anotheryear in which AMA plans to leave its mark on the Cal-State University Long Beachcampus and the community.

Each semester AMA sets out to meet and exceed its goals. For the past several years the organization has been one of the most dynamic on campus. During the past year, the organization distinguised itself at the National Conference in NewOrleans among the hundredths of schools in attendance from all areas of theUnited States. Through all of the hard work by the membership and the ExecutiveBoard, our chapter was recognized with 4 National Awards. This is an outstandingaccomplishment that exist from all the other schools who participated.

Although a large number of members have gone on to graduate and start theircareers, we are buoyed by the fact we have a large group of returning membersand a infusion of new members which will keep us all striving to improve ourorganization.

It is important that all of you recognize your potential and the potential of this groupto make a dramatic difference not just as members, but through our communityoutreach programs we can assist those lives who are in need. Utilize your involvement in the AMA to not only grow as a young professional but as a human being.

As your Faculty Advisor, I am here to assist and provide you guidance, whether ona professional or personal level. I look forward to another exciting year in whichAMA will settle for nothing but the best.

Best regards,Professor Tomlin

AMA Member Contest

The more you become involved in AMA the more you get, Literally! This semester CSULB AMA is bringing back their AMA member contest. Simply come to AMA meetings, community service events, fundraisers, socials, and become involved and you can WIN BIG!

Description: Each CSULB AMA member will receive points for events that they attend and their involvement. Every couple of weeks at AMA meetings, those members with the highest standings will be announced during our updates. At the verylast meeting of the semester, the AMA member with the most points will be announced.

How do I play?Only CSULB AMA members are eligible for the membership contest. Simply fill out our membership application before the due dates. Don’t worry, you have until October 26 to become a member and AMA will keep track of everyone’s points until October 26. After that, only paid AMA members are eligible to win.

What do I get?The winner will receive a basket* full of prizes, FREE entry to all CSULB AMA hosted events for the Spring 2010 semester (excluding the National Conference in New Orleans), and a CSULB AMA Honorary Member Award. Those who come in close will receive an AMA member recognition award, which also looks great on a resume.

Are their any other awards I can win? This year AMA introduces a number of new awards that our members will be eligible to win! The CSULB AMA executive board will be selecting members that have stood out throughout the semester to win other awards such as Rookie of the Semester, Most Outstanding Member, Up and Coming Member, and much more!

How does CSULB AMA keep track of points?AMA has a list of paid AMA members (new members will be added), and that will be used to documentwhich members are eligible and are attending the events. Each event is worth a certain amount of points (see calendar for details) and at the end the semester, the member with the most points wins.

Your responsibility: At each event there will be a sign-in sheet for the AMA member contest. Because of the number of people that usually attend AMA events, it is your responsibility to sign yourself in at each event. If you forget to sign yourself in or you do not write you name clearly, no points will be given. This is the easiest way for AMA to keep track of who is attending events, so that points are given fairly.

Are CSULB AMA events the only way to earn points? No, AMA members that join committees also earn points. Members will be able to join a number of different committees throughout the semester such as the communications committee and the Nationals committee.

* Should a tie occur each member will receive an award and entrance to all AMA CSULB local events for free. However, the gift basket will be split evenly amongst those who tie. By filling out an AMA membership

application you agree that you have read these rules and regulations and agree to them. *

Industry 241 derives from “Not Limiting Ourselves to a Single Marketing Industry” hence the name “Industry” And 241 comes from CBA 241, where our AMA Cubicle [and ofice] is located.

Industry 241, CSULB AMA’s Agency This year AMA has decided to launch an In-House CSULB Agency where we offer everything marketing from consulting to design advertising to marketing research. Industry 241 is a full marketing agency, our name deriving from not limiting ourselves to a single industry in marketing, but rather, all of it from advertising, to promotion, to research, to even viral marketing. Our target markets are other organizations on campus, non-proit organizations outside of campus, and small businesses. By creating this agency, this will provide our members a resume building, real-life experience in marketing and strengthen our professionalism, work ethics, standards and expectations. This will help build vital networking skills amongst other students in different organizations, strengthen a bond between the charitable organization, and will also help serve as a fundraising opportunity for AMA by charging reasonable fees to small businesses. Our goal is to work on at least four different projects with different organizations: 2 school organizations, 1 non-proit organization, and 1 small business, to advertise and promote their products, services, or event in a manner that is done professionally by students at Cal. State Long Beach. Want to Join? Fill out this sheet. Turn this sheet in to any Executive Board Member or drop this o at the AMA Cubicle in CBA Room 241. Name: _____________________________________ Major: ____________________________ Mobile Number: _____________________________ Email: ____________________________ Requirements for joining
