As of January 1, 2014, the following horses are eligible for AGSMH registration:

1) Spotted horses whose parents are both registered AGMH/AGSMH

OR

2) Spotted horses, regardless of registry of the parents, that can be shown by credible evidence to

have at least 50% Mountain Horse Heritage Ancestry (defined below), with the remaining

percentage being gaited stock.

Spotted horses that are registered with a gaited registry that requires certification of gait and

has passed Certification.

Spotted gaited horses that are not currently registered by a registry that requires gait

certification must send a video showing a 4 beat lateral gait either at liberty (if too young to be

ridden) or under saddle .

5. DNA Requirements: Any horse registered with RMHA or MPHA is not required to provide separate

DNA for AGMH registration, but should enclose a copy of the U.K DNA testing results.

Fillies/Mares or Colts/Stallions not yet registered with a DNA sharing registry, or who are registered

solely with a non-sharing registry, must submit a DNA kit (or hair) and fees with this application.

Geldings must provide DNA for I.D. purposes, and must prove parentage to any Heritage Ancestry

(defined below) that is declared.

Any declared Heritage Ancestry parentage must be proven by DNA before an AGMH® Certificate can be

issued. Proof of parentage to any non-Heritage Ancestry parent is not required.

6. Include four color photos --- front, back, and both sides. A picture will be added to your certificate. If

you have a preferred picture, please mark your choice clearly.

requests that an AGMH® certificate showing information on all registries be issued.

A DNA kit can be purchased from AGMH® for $43.00. Alternatively, applicants may pull 20-30 tail hairs

with root bulbs attached, tape it to a piece of paper with the horse’s name clearly printed, and place in a

paper envelope (not a plastic baggie). Send the sample along with the $43.00 fee to AGMH® at the

address below, and we will submit it with the proper paperwork to UK. All DNA reports obtained

through AGMH®/AGSMH will be made available (upon request) to any other registries. **I just moved

Definition of “Heritage Ancestry”:

At least 50% of the ancestry of the horse presented for registration is comprised of horses either

registered with RMHA or MPHA, or eligible to be registered with RMHA or MPHA, or, if not eligible, they

are not eligible for a technical reason not involving actual lineage, such as the certification of the parent

did not occur until after the offspring was conceived, or the parents were not registered even though

eligible.
