A dilemma descended on the Scribes department when I.IARY IRWIN closedher fuel-less home and moved to Washington, D.C. to spend the remainderof this chilly winter keeping house for her brother LT. D. ICING XR,7XN SJR.?U.S.N.R., who is stationed i n the Capitol City. . .leaving the tworemaining pen wielders aghast and agapq a is :rTATTL3 time" drew ni gh. . . .

However, until Miss Irwin' s welcome return, her scribery has been aptlytaken over by MRS. F. 3Y3RZTT ABBOTT whose husband i s LT. F. 3, ABBOTT,attached to the U.S.A.F. Well, here we go again boys, and the way we're able to si t down todash off each succeeding issue facing a bigger and better stack of fanmail throws us into a decided state of warm slow (combined with a sev-ere dash of typewriter'a cra.ip).

The f i r s t envelope on top of tho pile contains a note of thanks fromnone other than PVT. 7/atsdn is now n& able a seaman as ho was a man-about-town in the olddays, undergoing his "boot" training at tlio Great Lakss Naval Train-ing Station. Ex capt for getting used to tiio old 5 a.m. rising bol l ,7 r tson is an joy ing the hard work, because he 's lucky to have landodwith a group of pals who have plenty of fun. Ho s t i l l missos Mill-burn, howovor.

PVT. ROBERT G-. THOMPSON who seems to be zooming through the watersaround Ceiip Gordon, Ga, in an. outboard motor, was ma do a full fledgedEngineer as a New Year's present. With lovo, but no kisses, for hisUnclo Sambo, Bob says that not so long ago when lie was a taxpayer, hewondered if TEE TATTLE was really of interest to the men away fromhome. "Your f irs t copy has more than proven to ma i t s value." Thevery ideal As if our innocent l i t t l e effort affected the local taxes.I t doesn' t even lighten thorn, Bob, but that ' s an idea. Vftiy not steerthat outboard motor towards the Newark Bay some fine week-end give us,and your best gi r l , a treat?

And PVT. (TAKES ROGERS writes on flossy let terhead from Ft . Myers,Fl a., "yes, the Sunny South", that the wo ather on the Gulf of Mexicoi s, "awful damp and foggy in the morning 1 'Tssh - Tssh- Don't grouse somuch-FVT. ROGERS!

One of the nicest and most interesting l et t er s (such big, els or,purty printing, too) comes from TONY DI IOHNO. Tony, who is a S 2/cat the Naval Training School, Butler University in Indianapol is, sayshis new ''ship" is very pleasant ard ni ce. ''Life i sn ' t ful l of campuscut-ups, co-eds, e tc, as University loads you to believe"; hard work, mentally, according to Tony, who is studying to be a Signalman. ' Al-though Tony often j harns for Now Jersey, which is s t i l l ;! tho best Statein the Union", he says Indianapolis is e groat ci ty for ho spi tal i ty.Thanks loads, and as soon as you can got back to the B.3. I.T.U. we'lltry our best to go Indiana one bettor, Mr-. Boots.

CPL. FRANCIS F. WARD thinks the old homo s'tdto i s pretty good, too,Millburn in particular* Frank ho s been going places and having fun, oven though he's s t i l l at Ft . Konmouth, but tho 45 miles might as wellbo a thousand as far as keeping track of the old gong, without THETATTLE, of course. He had d furlough back in November, and "got him-self married" but won't t ol l , or forgets t o t ol l , his br ide ' s name.Anyway, he and Mrs. 7ard spent a wook in Montroal and more people re-marked about his chevrons being upsido down; oven tho Canadian on-l i stod men saluted him, which was fun but confusing.

ALFRED SCK7J3IZER S S/c proves he roods our breezy blurbs to thebit ter end. Good old Al addresses us os lT Hi > Toots 7 ', ovon though hedoesn' t fool in hi$ heart that i t ' s on appropriate beginning for alet ter . Your do-cision males us fool very lighth-ssrtod and skittishand we're glad you decided to ,,bs "di fferont". Of course, some of thenanDs we could be colled arc frightening to mull over. Al i s at theU.S. NAVAL TRAINING SCHOOL in Chicago and is an Aviation MachinistMato, aftor completing boot training at Groat Lakes. (There's t hatold coupon #17 cropping up again!) Chicago Is cold but tho people arewarm, which sounds like 2 nice balance, bet ter than vice versa, ^lso,

"Chicago i s a paradise for "sai lors". How about trying Millburn outwith that pretty blue suit again soon, Seaman? (or should wo say,'Hate"?)

JOHN PICCUTTO burns us up by writing a line or tv;o fror.i tliana Boach.

A complicated service address always baffles our feeble un-milit 'ary *'minds, but "flight" is one word we d_o understand. Maybe tho rest ofi t a l l is Jack's l i s t of favorite telephone numbers. ; 'Hello, there"yourself, John and use some more of that green ink soon.

    S. 2/c ROCCO CARSLLA has written a newsy lottor to Dr. G20RGS.DREHER which he kindly passed on to us, after answering personally. Atthe last writing our old pal Rocco was cooling his hoels "somewhere inBrooklyn" waiting to go to sea. No private rooms, we take i t , becauseone of the many Carrel las was perked in an Armory equipped with t r ipl edecked bunks and too many loud speakers, which kept humming all daylong. Crowded too, but he doesn't seoni tc mind. Gook luck on the seat r ip, Rocco, and we're glad your molars arc standing up undor thestrain of Army (or is it Navy)food.

Good old CPL. LCKSEVERl "Jo know you aren' t thinking of us, Jack, but BoyI does your l et t er make us happy! Stationed at Camp Gordon-'how about looking up Bob Thompson? -Jock treks to town (that ' s Augusta)

to. see some of the so-called peaches. "There isn' t a gi r l there whocan compare with tho ones in l.Iillburn." './hen Cpl. McKoovor came homoon Q recent furlough ho also said he could have kissed tho ground, asi t was real di rt (pulloaso) instead of a lot of sand and crab grass.(Remind us to stay away from Gordon). And write again, Jack.

MIDSHIP!IAN PAUL TEURSTON will gat his long awaited commission onMarch 5th after four month's training in Chicago, However, Paul takosexception to our merry crack in lost month's blast about "90 day won-dors". According to Paul, in th^ last stretch i t ' s a 90 day wonder ifanyono can stay that long without flunking out. He also writes, " I t ' sfor people like you - and your work and spi r i t , that we're working andfighting for- so keep up the good job - and tho home fi res burning -'and we' l l do our part ."

JOHNNY BRAY has already loft Bninbridge, Bad. for Norfolk, Va. whoreho i s of the armed guard with a Navy gun crew aboard o merchant marineship. S 2/c Bray is already hoping and pitying any submarine whichpokes i t s nose :.. bovo tho water, because there' s a crack crew aboard,Happy firing, Johnny, and ben voyage.

Another S2/c (U.S.N.T.S.) who i s happy and contented with his newlife is HENRY MONACO Hank is in Korchocd, Ky. studying to be anSlectrician.*s Kate, hard work but fun on tho sido. The no sir by townof Lexington is everything southern hospi tality should bo, good food,

entertainment, well people, end generally opon house to service man.Glad you like tho TATTLE, and den' t give thoso college gi rl s too muchof your time, Th_ homo talent is waiting for you to come back fancy-free.

Although ROCCO GIANNATTASIO claims ho's si t t ing on his bunk whilewriting his l et ter , ho needn't apologize for tho penmanship. Betterthan we could do under perfect conditions, Rocco, Ho feels at homeeven though in Portlnnt, Oregon, as there is plenty of snow and coldweather, but maybe i t ' s memories of Llary which keep him warm? Roccohad a furlough recently, but what certain blonde kept him too busy andat tentive to ollow him time for vi siting such things as the A.7/.V.S.headquarters. You are forgiven but stop in next time you blow in town.

PVT. ED* PRESSLER, who is with the Army Air Corps at JoffersonBarracks, Uo., picks valuable time out of the ai r to thank us forboth THE TATTLE and his present. Many thanks, press, old boy.

A nifty note from LT. (j .g. ) E. M. F3NNER, who has one of those. ..secret "south Pacific area" addresses. He's dovm in the wilds of someplace, and so far hasn't mot any alumnus of H.E.S. Glad you enjoycatching up on the gossip, Lt. Fennor (just what does the E M. standfor?) and we hope nothing prevents the future copies-from reaching .you.

Soooo, S l/c ANTHONY OCONS was a touch seasick the f i r s t day hewent boat riding, eh? I t couldn't be a guilty conscience that upsetyou, could i t , Tony? None' of our business, but-a l i t t l e bird t e l l s usyou don't write home often enough. Be a good boy and if your floodof letters to the loved ones doesn't settle the tummy,- we' ll take i tall back and ship a carload of Mother Si l l s .

PVT. NICHOLAS LIARCKSTTA who is vacationing in Africa at present, has big plans for the future of himself and irillburn. Nicky may beback soon, (so he. says) but he's.had so much experience doing his ownwashing, he' s thinking of starting a laundry, come the paaco.

PVT. LAWR1NC1 SUT3RA is a lucky bird as far as picking nico loca-tions. Larry has completed a course :b instruc tion of fighter ai r-craft and received his diploma in Colorado. Now he' s stat ioned atHammer Field, Gal., which sounds nico, too. Maybe tho SUT3RA boysthrive in a warm temperature, because PVT. JAMES is doing postal do-t a i l duty in Africa.

ANTHONY MAUCIONE is down at Ft. "/ashington, Ed. working hard in thoAdj. General 's School. Do you remember to take an apple to yourteacher, Tony?

CPL. JAMBS GROSSO who is in England writes ho likes i t and every-thing is apparently tops, cheerio, or what-have-you, but givo him goodold Mi lib urn. Attaboy, Jimmy.

P.F.C. JOSEPH KANE seems tc be a chip off the old block, or shouldwe say, j ust another tink le of the bell? Either ono is sour humor be-cause what we really want to say is that Jce is tak ing up telephonework, a natural considering he 's tho apple of Mr. and Mrs. Kane's eyes, who a ro both with tho N.J. Dell Telephone Co.

I t won't belong before the Navy discovers tho hidden talent of
