American Heroes—SNAPSHOT Biography Library Lesson Grade Level: 3 Benchmarks: finding information, using TOC and Index, using a time line, reading nonfiction, reading informational text, American Heroes. Materials: 6 computers Library presentation cart (dataprojector and document camera) American Hero Biographies, which include timelines. Who am I? Snapshot camera copy for each student Time line chart for each student Pencils Glue sticks Scissors Prior to the lesson, make copies of the camera and staple onto the bottom of each time chart (see attached) Lesson: Librarian reinforces meaning of biography and what is an accomplishment. Librarian demonstrates how to use the TOC or the Index to locate timeline in the biographies. Librarian demonstrates reading the timeline and then completing the required timeline with important accomplishments. Students select an American Hero, and complete their timeline. Upon completion, students go to computer images and locate a photo of their famous American and cut, paste the photo under the camera. Students will try to guess who is hidden under their classmates snapshot.

American  Heroes—SNAPSHOT  Biography  Library  Lesson  

 Grade  Level:  3    Benchmarks:    finding  information,  using  TOC  and  Index,  using  a  time-­‐line,  reading  non-­‐fiction,  reading  informational  text,  American  Heroes.      Materials:
