AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that engages more than 70,000 Americans each year in service to
meet our country’s critical needs.

Michigan’s AmeriCorps State Programs
Volunteers In Service To America provides full-time members to nonprofit,
faith-based and other community organizations and public agencies to
create and expand programs that ultimately bring low-income individuals
and communities out of poverty.
NCCC strengthens communities and develops leaders through
direct, team-based national and community service.
AmeriCorps State works with Governor-appointed State Service Commissions to provide grants to
public and nonprofit organizations to meet critical community needs in
education, public safety, health, and the environment.
AmeriCorps National provides grants directly to national public and nonprofit organizations that
sponsor service programs, Indian tribes, and consortia formed across two or more states that assist in
recruiting, training and placing AmeriCorps members to meet critical community needs in education, public
safety, health, and the environment.
The Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency established in 1993,
strives to engage Americans of all ages and backgrounds in voluntary service opportunities to
their communities and country.
State Service Commissions provide Corporation funding to AmeriCorps programs in their states
through annual grant competitions. In addition, the Commissions monitor and evaluate these
AmeriCorps programs.
The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) builds a culture of
service by providing vision and resources to strengthen communities through volunteerism.
Where are AmeriCorps Programs in Michigan?
Across the state, there are 21 programs with nearly 1000 members.
