RELATED PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Topic 1: Innovative skin structure:
The design of an Intelligent skin structure to retrofit existing high-rise of buildings in order to address the complex needs of a new environmentally focused economy and growingconcerns about how building impact the planet on a global scale.
Critical Position: The capitalist mode of production has a huge impact on the way buildingsare designed and constructed. Architectural value is the victim of this political economy . The result of this mode of production is the disconnection of buildings from the natural environment. The purpose of this project is to investigate thedevelopment of holistic view of building in harmony with nature in order to find a new way to interconnect buildings with their natural environment and, more specifically, how energy saving strategies can be applied to existing buildings through the modification and replacement of outdated enclosure systems with new state of the art “intelligent” skins.
ISSUE:
Existing curtain wall systems when designed with thermally inefficient systems are problematic. These envelops do not respond to the climaticvariations needsof their context or provide a high level of user comfortthrough a direct interface with changing environmental conditions.
NBC BUILDING - NEW DOUBLE SKIN FACADE
SOLUTION:
The notion of “ Intelligent skin ” is more than just the facade of a building. Intelligent skins become a dynamically changing building system that acts to reduce energy demand of the building and improve experimental qualityof interior space. They have the ability to control day lighting, manage heat gain and heat loss, incorporate natural ventilation, generate energy and providevisual connection between the sound interior and exterior environment.

Facade orientation:
NorthSouthWest
The importance of building orientation is one the main concepts of early design process. This conceptual model represents the influence of orientation on the design process. North, South, East, West, Top, and bottom require different ecological and energy demands based on surrounding climate. Interaction of functional and thermal effects is dependent on facade orientation.
Conceptual Idea:
Concepts models and Meta diagrams are guide tools used to better understand the nature of theproblem by generating artifacts that synthesize information and research. Concept models and Meta diagrams are not necessary the solution, but they are guides to problem solving process.

Meta Diagram:
A technique of 3D juxtaposition and interconnection of information
This Meta Diagram represents a contextual and program analysis ofDowntown San Diego where the NBC building is located. Each layer of materials explains a different types of information and network withincontext.

Magnets: represent importance of user comfort
Blue materials: precipitation
P4
Conceptual design:
One of the main purposes of designing a building’s envelope is to provide good day lighting. Day lighting strategies is one the main concepts for this project andplays a huge role in an effective design process. This conceptual idea is not necessarily part of the form that new skins may adopt, but they will provide formal structure ideasthat may provide solutions.
These valves increase and decrease openings based on light intensity, time of day, season, orientation and depth of space to improve experimental quality of interior space.

Topic 2: Innovative office environment
Critical Position:
The lack of social interaction with the corporate environment has created many social issues. the economics rendered the everyday day life American employee to the slave of the society.
