MAKE YOURWHEATPASTE

Mix two parts wheat flour with three parts water until free from lumps. Heat mixture over medium heat until it reaches a boil. Turn heat down to low and stir for at least a half hour. When mixture starts to thicken, slowly add more water. The wheatpaste should have the same consistency as tomato juice. Let cool before using.

You can also buy premade mixtures at any hardware or home improvement stores. They are typically called “wall paper adhesive” and can come premixed in buckets or as a powder to add water to. The wheatpaste should have the same consistency as tomato juice, add water to the mixture as needed to reach this consistency. When you’re ready to hit the streets, pour your wheat paste into your bucket.

Once an ideal location is selected and you have your posters printed, it’s time to install.

Using your brush, apply an even base layer of paste to the wall to the size of the poster you are putting up.

Align your print where you want it placed and adhere to the wall. Using your brush, apply another even layer of paste over the entire print, smoothing out air bubbles and making sure the corners are covered with paste and flat against the wall. Repeat steps 1-3 as needed. Let dry.

Print on uncoated, porous paper that is similar weight to standard printer paper or butcher paper. This allows for the paste to absorb into the paper and stick to the surface you are installing on.

Be inconspicuous if you are unsure of the legality of the placement of the posters you are installing.

Go with a friend to keep an eye out for trouble.

Avoid defacing or vandalizing property and be respectful of other art pieces on the streets. Areas that already have public advertisements are usually a safe bet.

Watch out for nails and other hazardous materials that could cause injury while installing.

Avoid installing in the rain.
