career overview
01
Despite having maintained a very positive re-lationship with previous employers, I am now seeking an opportunity to work at a smaller firm with a different focus and vision. I look forward to being a part of a more intimate working envi-ronment and contributing to projects that have a personal focus.
I am passionate about architecture which enhances the wellbeing of the underprivileged in society and greatly minimises consumption and ecological im-pact. I have a strong commitment to environmental sustainability in design and have long advocated the use of viable alternatives to traditional build-ing products and practice. This is evidenced in my architectural thesis on sustainable Indigenous com-munity building projects and also in my development of an online ‘green library’ database of socially and environmentally responsible building products and materials.
I am a final year Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Construction Management student and have been working in the Architecture in-dustry for five years. In this time I have gained experience in educational, community and residential building design, documentation and construction.
My experience has been varied and I have been fortunate to have been involved in many successful projects. In my five years working in a large firm I was able to develop the skills necessary to communicate and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and was given the opportunity to be involved in the implementation of large-scale projects. My previous and current work on private residential projects has allowed me the chance to work autonomously and enhanced my skills in project management, bud-geting and the development of client relationships. I have also found my practical on-site labouring experience invaluable as it has provided me with an understanding of construction sequence and detail-ing and contributed to a holistic understanding of the design process.

To Whom It May Concern
Re: Reference - Amy Clark
Amy has worked in both the Melbourne and Perth offices of Cox Architects on a semi-continuous basis (as her studies have allowed) between December 2005 and November 2008. In varying part-time and full time capacities, she has worked closely with Project Architects on a wide range of architectural projects. Most of these projects were in early conceptual phases and included master planning as well as architectural design and communication of design concepts. Amy contributed enthusiastically to the projects at hand and was interested in and able to contribute to the design dialogue in the studio. Her work with the Melbourne studio in particular exposed her to a wide range of project types and project tasks. Amy is a focused person and is able to take on and complete tasks in a team environment. We have no hesitation in recommending her to prospective employers. Hawthorn House
A restoration, refurbishment and addition project for a semi-retired couple living in a Victorian Italianate heritage home. The original 1880s features of the home were restored and a new open living space was created. The addition preserves the historic in-tegrity of the original house in both its form and materiality whilst providing for a contemporary lifestyle. Environmental impact of the project is reduced with passive design features, low em-bodied energy materials, clean energy supply and water recycling systems. It incorporates a northern aspect, cross ventilation, double thick-ness brickwork, double glazing, recycled timber and bricks, low VOC products, photovoltaics, rain water tanks and a grey water system.

Kingsville House
An alteration and addition project for a young couple looking to expand the living, resting, washing and cooking areas of their Californian bungalow home. The design reflects the couple’s social lifestyle and makes use of intimate spaces, family gathering spaces and larger social entertaining spaces. It also has a strong focus on minimising the impact on the environment. Environmental impact is minimised through the incorporation of stack effect ventilation, cross ventilation, thermal mass, natural day-lighting and a northern orientation.

Scarborough House
An alteration and addition project for a family of four living in their coastal bunga-low style home in the warm Perth climate. At concept stage, the design creates a new living and entertaining space which both frames and reflects their beautiful Australian native gar-den backdrop. With its cathedral like form and rich natural materiality, the design resembles tree branches reaching across the space and meeting each other in the middle. Compliment-ing the surrounding natural environment, it provides a stylish and functional space in which family and friends can socialise.

Women’s Wellbeing Centre
Thesis | PART AA design for a women’s wellbeing centre that has been submitted to the Bagot Indigenous Community, NT and funding agents with build-ing potential for 2011. The design, construction details and indicative costing was all completed in one week.
The idea to design the Women’s Wellbeing Centre came from observations and consultation with wom-en in the community. It is a place where women can gather to practise traditional cultural art, contempo-rary art, cooking and music. It is intended that the centre will help provide empowerment for women in the Bagot community.

Creswick Washroom
Architectural Thesis | PART BA collaborative project using discarded materials to create a washroom for local community members. My responsibility was to design the water collection, stor-age and disposal system. I found the use of scrap PVC pipes allowed me to create an innovative and effective solution. Dur-ing the project I drew on skills in construc-tion techniques, site management and teamwork.
