October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.Down Syndrome Awareness month isn’t about making others aware of disabilities but for celebrating incredible abilities. What better way to honor this awesome month than by kicking off our 12-year-old son’s art career with his inaugural art show. On Saturday, October 28th, at Folia Loft, Emmett Kyoshi Wilson will share his incredible works of art with the world.

What makes this so special? Emmett was born with Down Syndrome. Kathy and I handed him a paint brush 8 years ago, and he’s been creating ever since. We had no idea when we gave him the middle name Kyoshi, which is teacher in Japanese, that he would become just that.

Emmett takes on the world with the simple belief that every day is a day to spread joy. There’s much to learn about this thing called Down Syndrome and we see Emmett’s special needs as a gift to us and to all who know him. When you stand in front of one of his paintings, you get a glimpse of his pure heart and creative mind.

Emmett’s innate talent for abstract painting has struck a chord with everyone who experiences his work. We listened to the call and now it’s time to share his gift of pure love with everyone.

We invite you to join us to be a part of this very special evening.

(It’s no coincidence that we chose Emmett’s favorite holiday to celebrate. Costumes optional.)

- Paul Wilson

Donations for NADS (National Association for Down Syndrome) will be collected at the door.

A huge thanks to our amazing friends at Tito’s, Deschutes Brewery, Hendricks Gin, The Glunz Family Winery, Breckenridge Distillary, Sweet Mandy B’s, Beatrix, Wishbone and Folia Loft for supporting Emmett and NADS.
