Note From The Library!
The Health Committee is excited to let you know that in the Health Section of the library there are two racks with information on more than 30 topics, such as the 2018 Annual Prostate Report; Heart
Disease; Depression; Grief and Loss, etc. These booklets can be signed out and kept for a week.
In addition, there are newsletters on a variety of current health
issues, such as Nutrition, Mind, Body, and Memory. The notebooks containing the newsletters can be found on the
second shelf of the bookcase between the two racks. The latest information on
hearing loss is on the first shelf.
Books on health, end of life and other materials are
in the first bookcase. All these materials use medical terms that are easy to comprehend.
Next month the Seabury newsletter will have a “new” look. Moving forward we have streamlined the publication to the calendar and information specific to the calendar.
At the same time Residents have decided to revive “The Buzz”. This is where you will be able to find
all committee and special interest news. This will start in November. More details on “The Buzz” will follow!

Seabury’s resident-run thrift shop, Encore! has been going strong for over 20 years. It is the embodiment of the phrase, “reduce, reuse,
recycle.” With the help of many resident volunteers and countless enthusiastic shoppers, we are proud to report that, since it’s humble beginnings, Encore! has raised over $250,000. Proceeds from Encore! fund all Independent Residents’ Council committees, and are
used to purchase items needed within the Seabury community. Encore! receives a yearly budget to cover the expenses of
purchasing laundry and dishwasher detergent (everyone prefers to buy clean items), price tags and stickers, and printing costs for our advertising signs. Volunteers spend upwards of 80 hours per week
processing, cleaning, pricing, and arranging donations. Items that are donated that we are unable to sell are, in turn, donated to several
local charities. Of course, we wouldn’t be able to do it without all of you in the
Seabury Community. As you may have surmised, it is no accident that sale days coincide with Seabury’s payday, as Seabury employees are
our most loyal customers! We have a special event coming up, our annual Unique Boutique holiday sale November 8th. Please save

The App, Bite by Sodexo affords diners the opportunity to make more informed decisions. The app includes a wealth of information from item descriptions, nutritional facts (calories, protein, sodium, etc), and identifiers for meatless options. On October 3, 11:00.a.m. Chapel. I will host an introduction to the Bite app. There will also be a demonstration on how to install and highlight the features of this technology. I look forward to seeing you at this event. As always, I look forward to hearing about your experiences and suggestions. Until next time. Bon appetite! ~Peter W. Ponticelli
