A MESSAGE FROM THE AUTHOR

Welcome to the Uncovering the Life of Your Dreams Lucid Living Companion Program!

The concepts in this book are associated with what I call “lucid living.” Becoming lucid in your life,

becoming more aware of who you are and why you are here, allows you to live a much deeper, more

satisfying life.

My intent in writing Uncovering the Life of Your Dreams was not to give you answers but to remind you that

the answers you seek are already within you, waiting to be revealed, or uncovered. All you need to do to

access them is to reconnect with the part of you that knows; to remove the layers of all that you are not

to reveal the truth of who you are. When you do so, you will awaken and remember what you have

forgotten: you are a perfect creation.

The lessons of the portals provide a path to enlightenment, to seeing the light of Truth. They allow you to

see into and then move through to a deeper level of reality. This program will help you begin to access

your own answers.

One last thing—know that you are not alone as you move through this process. I invite you join the

conversation on the One Idea Away Facebook community One Idea Away Facebook community. Sharing

your experiences and connecting with others will help you know that we are all on the same path. The

name One Idea Away comes directly from the book. In the Portal of Knowing, Scott learns that “Even if

you change only one thought, your inner computer changes and so then does your picture of the world.

Remember this very important point; you are just one idea away from a new reality.”

In order to uncover the life of your dreams, in order to uncover anything—know that you truly are just one

idea away from whatever it is that you desire. Not just any idea, though—an idea that raises your

consciousness; an in-the-moment idea. It’s not an idea that comes from fear, doubt, or worry, or one that

comes from the past. It is a highly conscious idea, a high energy idea. When you attach to that type of idea

you are no longer operating by yourself. You have the energy of everything and everyone around you.

You are operating in the flow. Things just happen. Synchronicities occur. Change really can stem from just

one idea, a very special type of idea.

I t al l starts with you.

In joy,

Bruce D Schneider

AWAKENING AND UNCOVERY

Awakening is remembrance of Truth; an experience that tells you that there is something more than what

you believed before.

There are two ways that people can awaken to Truth. One is a direct path where you have some sort of

spontaneous awakening. The other is an indirect path in which you go through an exploration of figuring

out what you are not. This process, one that Bruce refers to as “uncovery,” involves removing the layers

of all that you are not to reveal the truth of who you are. It is a journey of self-realization. The process of

uncovering strips away all the beliefs and ideas about who you think you are to reveal who you really are.

It’s both a logical and an intuitive process. As you systematically figure out what you are not, as different

layers of yourself get peeled away, you are eventually left with who and what you are.

Uncovery involves challenging your belief system by questioning every single thing you believe about

yourself, about the world, and about others. If those beliefs fit, keep them. If not, replace them with beliefs

that “feel” right to you and continually refining those beliefs again and again. We’ll explore your belief

systems when we get to the Portal of Knowing.

As you uncover and awaken, you’ll become more conscious, more aware of who you are as your

True Nature.

The five portals talk about different aspects or traits of Consciousness, which is your True Nature.

In an interview, Bruce was asked “How do these portals, all five of them considered together, help us to

uncover who we are and live the life of our dreams?”

Bruce replied that “they are guides unto themselves, in that when you think about each of them, they offer

you an opportunity to handle every situation in your life in a way that is high consciousness. In other

words, instead of getting aggravated one day, maybe just say ‘Hmm, I'm going to watch myself

experience this aggravation. I'm going to watch without judgment. I'm just going to see what I see.’

“So, in a sense, you kind of step outside of yourself and you become the observer as well as the

participant. You just look and say, how cool is that? And then you start to appreciate that you can have

such an experience. And you start to remember that perhaps this part of you that watches is a little more

real than that part of you that is at the effect of life.”

WHERE TO BEGIN: YOUR FRAME OF MIND

Lucena tells Scott that in order to get into the portals, he needs to have the right frame of mind—“COO”—

he needs to be “curious, which is the state of having an inquisitive, child-like fascination, open-minded, so

when you find the truth, you will be ready to let go of what you currently believe, and optimistic that you

will find what you are looking for.” Why these three traits? Because they allow you to approach life with

passion and engagement and without judgment. Cultivating these three characteristics allows you to see

the multitude of possibilities and the opportunities in all situations. In fact, as Scott learns, “the only thing

that is impossible is to understand what’s possible.”

There’s another aspect of your frame of mind that’s mentioned later in the book: loving-kindness, which

is the tenet upon which all belief systems are based. Scott learns about practicing loving-kindness toward

everything and everyone, including himself. He is told that “If you keep loving-kindness as a guide, it will

help you release suffering and move you closer to your True Nature. That’s because loving-kindness is

closer to your True Nature.”

Write down the thoughts and feelings you would have and the actions you would take

if you were completely curious, open-minded, optimistic, and lovingly kind.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being not at all to 10 being totally, how much does the way

you currently show up in your life match the description you just wrote?

PORTAL OF AWARENESS

PORTAL 1 Aware is what we can be. Awareness is the way of Being.

Awareness is the eye of consciousness

The Portal of Awareness is about being aware of “what, and also of who, where, when, how, and why. It is

about seeing what is, not the illusion created from the mind.” From a very practical perspective,

awareness is your ability to see the truth, your ability to see what is as opposed to creating a story

about it.

Seeing “what is” is challenging, because we are programmed to look at everything through the lenses and

filters of our past experiences and beliefs. “We each see what we expect to see,” says the boy in the first

portal. “Our outer view is a reflection and projection of our inner view. If you expect darkness, you will be

in the dark.”

In fact, Scott learns that “Nothing is as it appears to you to be... Everything just is.”

Being aware is about what you perceive. Being Awareness is remembering that you are the perceiver. In

other words, you are the observer, observing you, the observed.

Let’s practice being more aware.

Exercise Listen to this 90 second audio and follow the instructions.

What did you learn from that experiment?

Being aware is not only about what you see, but what you don’t see.

Think of a situation in your past where you saw what you expected to see. Looking

back on it now, what did you miss seeing at the time?

After playing a game on the subway, Scott tells Eric that “this was an enlightening experience. I’ll never

look at a train the same way again. Actually, I’m not sure if I’ll look at anything in quite the same way again.”

What experiences have you had in your life that completely changed the way you saw

the world?

Bonus Activity

• Look deeply into what you see. Just keep asking, what am I really seeing? As Scott is told, “Do not just

accept what your past or your senses tell you. Question everything, curiously.”

• “Continue to let go of your past assumptions and now try to let go of any current interpretations and

creative stories. Instead, just see. No thoughts at all.”

• Our world is a subjective interpretation of the outer world, so instead of just believing what you see, just

watch. Don’t try to attach a thought to it. Don’t try to figure it out. Don’t try to interpret it, just observe it.

That’s the first process to bypassing the critical mind, the first opportunity that you have to discern true

from Truth, the first chance that you have to say, what do I really see? Because if you accept what you

see as reality, you will never ask the questions, what is it that I really see and what is it that I don't see?

• Listen to Bruce’s guided meditation on Awareness.

PORTAL OF ACCEPTANCE

PORTAL 2 Accepting is how we can act. Acceptance is the open arms of the Universe.

Acceptance is the heart of consciousness

The first portal was about seeing without interpretation, meaning seeing without the filters that cloud your

sight. The Portal of Acceptance is about experiencing what you see without judgment.

Acceptance is perhaps the most powerful tool that you could ever incorporate into your life. The idea of

being accepting of people, places and things, accepting of thoughts, accepting of yourself, accepting of

your circumstances and others’ circumstances, and accepting of everything that happens is guaranteed

to change your life and reduce your suffering. Scott is told that “Most of your emotional suffering comes

from nonacceptance. Once you unconditionally accept the people, places, and things in your life, you will

release yourself from the confinement created from deep within your mind that keeps you stuck in the

illusion of a painful, unjust, and disappointing world.”

Unconditional Acceptance takes it even further in not only being okay with everything that happens, but

actually embracing all experiences. So, a more awakened person might look at experiences and not

judge them and instead say, no matter what it is, bring it on.

What would happen if you embraced all experiences, stopped judging, and just

observed and experienced the awe and power of life?

Now, based on your wheel of life and your lists, answer the same question the nurse

asked Scott: How well do you accept your life, including all that you are, based on all

you have experienced, including your upbringing?”

If you’re not unconditionally accepting of yourself and your life (and it’s a very good bet that’s the

case—the vast majority of us are not!), then you are judging: limiting your view to a unique perspective

that you have where you decide what’s right and wrong as opposed to looking at what is. You are actually

fighting what is!

The first step in becoming less judgmental is to become aware of the judgments you’re making—

judgments about situations, people, and most importantly, self-judgments. A great way to do this is to

keep a judgment journal. Simply note all the judgments you make during the course of a day or a week.

Note the times you thought of yourself, something, or someone else as "bad" or "good." (Note: Post what you

learned from journaling on the One Idea Away Facebook page).

Bonus Activity

The chapter starts with Scott observing his life as if it were a movie. Sit back, close

your eyes, and watch the movie of your life. (Note: When you see your character

being played out in a movie or dream, judgment fades).

What is the title of your movie?

• First, practice nonjudgment, simply by being aware of the judgments you make. Do not be too harsh on

yourself for judging; it is normal.

• By becoming more aware of your judgments, you will be able to lessen them and eventually prevent them.

• When you begin to feel less judgmental, remember the idea of bringing life on, meaning, do not just

accept what happens, but actually look forward to any experience, even a truly painful one. Just

welcome it all and be grateful to be able to have such experiences.

• Listen to Bruce’s guided meditation on Acceptance.

PORTAL OF KNOWING

PORTAL 3 Belief is what we think we know to be true. Knowing is our Truth.

Knowing is the mind of consciousness

Knowing is the part of you that knows that you are aware. You are aware that you exist; how do you know

that? You just know! Knowing is some aspect of our True Self that is wise, that is intelligent, that is beyond

body, that is all encapsulating.

Knowing is not of the mind and cannot be understood through the spoken word. It is a shared sense of

Truth that resonates within each of us, within all of us. Knowing is about listening without your mind and

hearing without attaching any labels, judgments, or thoughts onto what you heard.

We’re going to dive deeper into four of the lessons Scott is exposed to in this portal: intuition, belief

systems, reality-changing ideas, and the paths to Knowing.

I N T U I T I O N

Scott learns that “One way to think about Knowing is to relate it to intuition... Intuition comes in many

forms. You’ve been experiencing yours through various forms of chills and feelings. You have also

resonated with concepts that just felt correct to you. Additionally, you have just known some things and

have questioned how you knew them. You didn’t even understand or necessarily agree with what came

to you. All of that is your intuition speaking to you. Keep refining yours, as it is your way of providing you

with directional signs to Truth.”

Intuition comes to us in a variety of ways. Here are three common types:

1. CLAIRVOYANCE (clear seeing or clear vision) is experienced when an individual sees objects, people,

or situations, not with the physical eyes, but with an internal sense.

2. CLAIRAUDIENCE (clear hearing) is the ability to receive thoughts or information about a person or

situation through an auditory sense instead of a visual one. Most often, it comes as a voice that is

literally heard either directly in the brain or as if it comes from beside or behind the person.

3. CLAIRSENTIENCE (clear sensing) is probably the most frequent way intuition manifests in our lives,

through hunches, gut feelings, or a sense of knowing without knowing how one knows. This "sensing" is

often accompanied by a physical sensation like the ones Scott experienced.

Although you may not realize it, most of your beliefs have been chosen for you by your parents, teachers,

friends, etc. Many of us don’t stop to examine the beliefs we have; we just assume that they are valid.

Scott learns that “You have beliefs about everything. Some work for you, and those are the ones you want

to cultivate. Some beliefs work against you, and those are the kind you want to change. And some beliefs

simply do not matter. You need to learn the differences between them all ... focus your energy on the

things that do matter to you.” Scott also learns that to resonate with Truth, all consciously chosen belief

systems must be based on loving-kindness toward oneself and others.

Let’s start to explore your belief system. Below, list your beliefs about yourself, other

people, and the world. Where did these ideas come from? Which are consciously

chosen and which are not? Which matter to you? Which are rooted in loving-kindness?

In an interview with the author, he states that “the ideas that really help people manifest the life of their

dreams are the ones that they probably haven't thought of because they’ve been using their mind in a

way that limits them.”

What kind of ideas have changed your reality?

How might you free yourself of doubt, worry, and fear so that these ideas are more

understanding of all things. ... follow whatever path you feel will help you remember the truth.”

T I P S F O R B E C O M I N G M O R E K N O W I N G

• Scott recognizes that this “voice had always been there, but I’d been so busy thinking that I hadn’t heard

it.” When you are able to still your mind, there is a sense of knowing that exists in the void between

thoughts. In an interview with the author, he said that “in order to truly let the mind go, all you need to

do is to be still, that’s it. Any time something pops in and you think, I’m thinking, be aware of it and let it

go, and then you’ll understand what you actually have access to, instead of trying to figure it out.”

• Try different methods of making your mind still—meditation is a very popular and effective one.

• Like Scott does, work on deciphering “true from Truth by separating your ego from the experience. Ask

yourself ‘What does my intuition tell me is Truth, and what has my mind conceived that is only true?’”

(Hint: “To distinguish between true and Truth, remember that any idea that separates you, limits you, or

attempts to define you in any way is an idea that moves you further from Truth. The people, places, things,

and ideas that unite you are those that move you closer to your True Essence.”)

• In a deeply relaxed or meditative state, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, then ask yourself

a question and wait for intuition to speak. This is a process of self-inquiry. Bruce does this and then uses

his body as kind of a measuring device or a sounding board. If the question “brings a sense of bliss, then

I figure I am in line with Truth. If it brings dissonance, then I am not.” As soon as you start to figure it out,

you're only going to come up with answers from your past experiences. When you allow intuition to

speak you’re open to new information.

• Ponder this: What if you knew that all the knowledge of the universe was readily available to you and

all you needed to do was stop trying to figure it out?

• Listen to Bruce’s guided meditation on Knowing,

PORTAL OF PRESENCE

PORTAL 4 Present is what we can experience in the moment. Presence is the

authentic expression of the Oneness of experience.

Presence is the body of consciousness

Only the present moment exists—now is all there ever is. In the Portal of Presence, Scott is told that “Your

mind dwells in the past and explores the future, but neither actually exist. Your mind does both of those

things only in the present moment.” We are always, only, here and now.

Much of the time, however, we dwell on the past, thinking of what was, or on the future, thinking of what

could be. In either case, you’re not present, as your experience is not about what is, it’s about what you

make out of what is.

In an interview with Bruce, he says that “when people become fully present in the moment, things happen

to them. Physiologically, everything changes. They become aware, less judgmental, they experience a

sense of peace. I have experienced that sense of joy, that sense of bliss. The moment is reality. That is

reality. That is consciousness.”

When you are in the moment, you’re not worrying about what will happen or what has already happened.

If you are worried about the future, or thinking about the past, you cannot be present in the moment. If

you try to force something to happen, you deplete your energy. When you are totally focused and living

in the moment, all your energy is available to you, and you are living closest to your full potential.

Think about the following questions, and if you’d like, write your thoughts in the box on the next page:

• When you take an action, is it to enjoy the experience or just to get it done? (Hint: even something as

seemingly mundane as errands can be transformed into an in-the-moment experience.)

• When you eat a meal is it for enjoyment or to finish it?

• When you have a conversation with someone, are you truly listening or just waiting to get your point

across?

• Are you enjoying the journey with excitement, curiosity, joy, and passion, or are you simply going

through the motions?

observing.

• Let the mind go and awaken to reality. Listen to your intuition without imposing any of your judgments

or interpretations on it and without searching for proof to confirm what you already believe. Let go of

the illusions of time and space.

• Listen to Bruce’s guided meditation on Presence.

PORTAL OF FREEDOM

PORTAL 5 Free is the release of all that you are not. The Absolute is Freedom.

Freedom is the voice of consciousness

In the Portal of Freedom, Scott is told that he must face his deepest fear in order to be truly happy and

free. Fear is something that is within each one of us because we have forgotten the truth about who we

are and why we are here. Because of that, we live an isolated, lonely, scary life. Once you remember the

truth, once you uncover and let go of everything that you are not, you experience the freedom that is

already within you that is waiting to come out. You don't have to find freedom. You just have to eliminate

everything that is not freedom.

Freedom is the true nature of everything. In an interview, Bruce said that “freedom is the end result of the

exploratory process that removes attachments, desires, blame, guilt, anger, and all the things that you are

not. When you are absolutely free, you are fearless.”

In the book, some of Scott’s fears are discussed. He is told that what stops him from knowing the truth of

Freedom is the voice inside him that tells him he’s not good enough. The beggar tells him that “it is very

normal to feel the fear of judgment. Everyone does. Everyone hears the same voice telling them that they

are not good enough. Some are just better at blocking it out than others. Though we all have it in

common, that voice is not born from Truth; it is learned during our early experiences in life.”

In what ways do you feel “not good enough”?

Which situations or people bring out that “not good enough” feeling?

Which of your early life experiences created your “not good enough” feelings?

Scott says he has “tried all my life to be what others wanted me to be and it has never worked.”

How much do you try to be what others want you to be? Think about these questions

and write some thoughts in the space provided on the following page:

• Where do I compromise?

• Where do I sell myself short?

• Where do I give in to make others like me?

• How do I limit myself?

Scott tells Karine that he sees freedom everywhere and that he knows “I can experience that any time I

choose by letting go of any attachments, desires, goals, doubts, or fears. As I release all that I think I want

or think I am, I uncover and reveal the freedom of that which I truly am.”

What attachments, desires, goals, doubts, or fears do you have?

What comes up for you when you think about releasing all of them? (Note: Look at what

the attachments, goals, etc. do for you and realize that they are keeping you connected to

ideas that limit you.)

The beggar tells Scott that “the only way to let go of something is to first grab hold of it. How ready are

you to face and let go of what you are not?”

Answer the beggar’s question for yourself: How ready are you to face and let go of

what you are not?”

Scott says that “I decided that things would be different. Very different. No holding back anymore. No

longer letting fear be my guide. I’d be me, unconditionally.”

Where do you hold back?
