Mission: To connect healthcare leaders from across the Portland Metropolitan area, with the goal of developing skills in the areas of quality and safety improvement in healthcare. 2008 PSU Chapter Founded July 2011 Rory MPA:HA PSU student attends Student Quality Leadership Academy (SQLA) December 2011 Rory the Chapter leader attends National Forum April 2012 Rory solicits student interest in Continual Improvement course at PSU May 2012 New leadership team is formed June 2011 New leadership team is contacted by students from OHSU Consensus is gathered from both groups and a joint PSU & OHSU Chapter is formed. July 2012 Three leadership team members attend SQLA September 2012 The Chapter co-hosts a pre- screening of Escape Fire with over 110 attendees. October 2012 The Chapter hosts “Realizing the Triple Aim in Oregon” panelist event. 40 attendees. The IHI Open School West Coast Regional Leader attends and speaks at the event. About Us: We are an inter- disciplinary organization comprised of students and faculty from Portland State University and Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon sharing a common interest in quality improvement and improving care for patients and populations. Activities & Achievements cont. External Creation and development of the Chapter Facebook Page and Chapter Website Networking and connecting with QI groups/specialists at OHSU Incorporating IHI Open School curricula into the curriculum at OHSU School of Medicine and PSU Creation of the PSU & OHSU IHI Open School email specific listserve Increased active membership [27 persons on original email list-serve, currently have 96 persons on email list-serve]. Project Leadership team members have started a collaborative QI project with the division of Continuing Medical Education at OHSU. The project is the creation of a systematic tool for incorporating improvement into the Morbidity and Mortality series. M&M MM&I Looking Towards the Future: Chapter sustainability Expansion of our Chapter to other institutions To continue to engage other health care disciplines To encourage the development of other Chapters in the state of Oregon. Goals: Short term: Leadership team members complete the Basic Open School Certification Focus on establishing our infrastructure as a chapter including leadership role development, PSU and OHSU sponsorship as a student group. Work on a QI project in the community as a leadership team Long term: Becoming a community organization Have 100 active participants Getting state/national recognition Incorporating IHI Open School curricula into the curriculum at PSU and other institutions. Collaborate to achieve the first West Coast IHI Open School Chapter Regional Conference.
