What is the Integrated Maritime Policy

• The GDP per inhabitant in the coastal regions 24 294 eur (2005) and some 5 million work in maritime sectors

• Almost 90 % of the EU external trade and 40 % of the

EU’s internal trade is seaborne

• There are more than 1200 ports in the EU coastal regions, handling some 400 million passengers and 3.500 billion tonnes cargo

• Coastal regions have some 9600 hotel units and 3000 marinas

To increasing interoperability of surveillance activities

Promoting cooperation across sectors and countries to bring together monitoring and tracking systems on maritime safety and security, protection of marine environment, fisheries control, control of external borders and other law enforcement activities is a key objective of the Integrated Maritime Policy
