- Meeting with a Career Counselor early and throughout his/her college career will help your student make
informed and professional career decisions.
- If he/she is unsure, point out personal and professional qualities that you see as talents and strengths.
Your student can also use self-assessment tools from the Career Center to self-explore.
- Career Counselors can help your student with researching related career fields and employers. One-on-one
career counseling appointments are available.
- It’s okay to make suggestions about majors/career fields but let your student also explore fields of
interest. Picking your major does not mean picking one career forever.
- The Career Center offers step by step assistance. Get sample resumes from the Career Center and have a draft
critiqued by a Career Counselor.
- Employers look for internship and related experience on a student’s resume, and often hire from within their
own internship programs.
- Future employers value leadership skills and involvement outside the classroom. The Office of Student Life or
The Career Center can help your student explore opportunities.
- The majority of career opportunities are found through networking. Let your student know to seek out
information about areas of interest from people in that industry.
- In the workplace, your student will be expected to act professionally. Visit the Career Center to learn about
