Anaheim Resort District Wayfinding Improvement Proposal September 10, 2018 The Disneyland Resort, in partnership with the City of Anaheim Traffic Planning department and the Anaheim Convention Center, utilizes wayfinding signs throughout the Resort District to help manage traffic flow throughout the area. The wayfinding signs are made up of static signs in the median and shoulders, digital signs in the median, large cantilever signs (both digital & static), and trailer mounted digital signs. The trailer mounted signs, while effective, do not match the look and feel of the other signs throughout the Resort District and some of the other signage needs to be updated to support current and future traffic patterns. To help improve the overall appearance of the Resort District, as well as prepare for the expected increase of traffic associated with the opening of several hotels throughout the area, the completed expansion of the Anaheim Convention Center, and the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, The Disneyland Resort has initiated a project to do the following: Replace the trailer mounted signs throughout the Resort District with permanently installed digital signs that can be controlled through the Anaheim Traffic Management Center Repair the changeable arrows on the large cantilever signs that assist in directing traffic to Downtown Disney and Theme Park parking areas Replace static with digital signs in key areas to improve the quality of wayfinding assistance Install new digital signs in key areas as determined in partnership with the City of Anaheim Traffic Planning department, Anaheim Convention Center, and The Disneyland Resort The current estimate developed by the Disneyland Resort project management team for replacing trailer mounted signs along Disneyland Drive & Katella Ave, as well as repairing the changeable arrows and changing out two of the large cantilever static signs with digital signs is ~$1.2M. There are additional wayfinding improvements needed along the Katella Avenue and Harbor Boulevard corridors that need to be finalized and designed, however the scope is similar to the current estimate of $1.2M. In addition to the installation of the signs, to assist in the quality of communication with each sign and to protect against 3 rd party hacking of the messaging, the City of Anaheim Traffic Planning department would like to ensure that, wherever possible, the communication is done via fiber optic cables rather than over cellular and the ROM to provide fiber to the proposed signs is ~$1M. The current proposed estimate of funding required to complete this work is $3.5M. In regards to timing, the portion of the project that has been designed by the Disneyland Resort project management team could likely be completed by Spring, 2019, with the remainder of the work dependent on the speed and complexity of the design and installation work, however the goal would be to have all work completed by end of 2019. The Disneyland Resort, in partnership with the City of Anaheim Traffic Planning department and the

Anaheim Convention Center, utilizes wayfinding signs throughout the Resort District to help manage

traffic flow throughout the area. The wayfinding signs are made up of static signs in the median and

shoulders, digital signs in the median, large cantilever signs (both digital & static), and trailer mounted

digital signs. The trailer mounted signs, while effective, do not match the look and feel of the other

signs throughout the Resort District and some of the other signage needs to be updated to support

To help improve the overall appearance of the Resort District, as well as prepare for the expected

increase of traffic associated with the opening of several hotels throughout the area, the completed

expansion of the Anaheim Convention Center, and the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, The

Disneyland Resort has initiated a project to do the following:

Replace the trailer mounted signs throughout the Resort District with permanently installed

digital signs that can be controlled through the Anaheim Traffic Management Center

Repair the changeable arrows on the large cantilever signs that assist in directing traffic to

Downtown Disney and Theme Park parking areas

Replace static with digital signs in key areas to improve the quality of wayfinding assistance

Install new digital signs in key areas as determined in partnership with the City of Anaheim

Traffic Planning department, Anaheim Convention Center, and The Disneyland Resort

The current estimate developed by the Disneyland Resort project management team for replacing trailer

mounted signs along Disneyland Drive & Katella Ave, as well as repairing the changeable arrows and

changing out two of the large cantilever static signs with digital signs is ~$1.2M. There are additional

wayfinding improvements needed along the Katella Avenue and Harbor Boulevard corridors that need

to be finalized and designed, however the scope is similar to the current estimate of $1.2M. In addition

to the installation of the signs, to assist in the quality of communication with each sign and to protect

against 3rd party hacking of the messaging, the City of Anaheim Traffic Planning department would like

to ensure that, wherever possible, the communication is done via fiber optic cables rather than over

cellular and the ROM to provide fiber to the proposed signs is ~$1M.

The current proposed estimate of funding required to complete this work is $3.5M.

In regards to timing, the portion of the project that has been designed by the Disneyland Resort project

management team could likely be completed by Spring, 2019, with the remainder of the work

dependent on the speed and complexity of the design and installation work, however the goal would be
