Analysis Scene from ‘Cutting It’ – Characters and Performance In this scene there are two main characters a male and a female, both look middle aged. They act like a married couple, wedding rings are a give away. Also there dialog tells us that they have been married three times and they have a history together. The woman’s performance consists of many facial expressions. She expresses that she knows something that her ‘husband’ doesn’t. She looks like she is discontent and that she is uncertain to what will happen. It’s quite realistic as you can not hear what they are thinking. But what makes it a TV drama is that it is dramatic in its own way and that it has a set story line. Both characters are spotlighted with close-ups when talking to each flicking from one to the other, also when they are apart. This implicates that there is a build up to something quite big. They are dressed smartly which could mean that they both have a good careers and a nice lifestyle. It becomes more dramatic when the woman gets hit by the bus, the shot is slowed down making it slow motioned and also it is amplified with sad music playing and the characters voices over this. There performance is made more dramatic with the slow motion and music played, making this scene important to the story. This feature communicates to the audience by how the character is presented in the story line. The way that they dress tells us quite a lot about who they are and how important they are. Both characters are dressed smartly with emphasises on what sort of life style they lead. Although the way that they act show more e.g. there marriage, being married three times shows that they have had difficulties and are trying again. Without these main characters there wouldn’t be much of a story line to tell. With characters and how they perform in a dramatic way, gives ‘Cutting it’ its TV Drama genre because there are big scenes played by these characters that make them stand out, although they are realistic they are more
