At first I was shocked to see such a poor website when compared to The Killers, however remembering that the Pigeon Detectives are an indie band, lacking the support of a major record label to produce a site, it instead makes this an impressive feet to create an online presence given the limited money or resources they have, and clearly reinforces the autonomous and do it yourself attitude indie bands have.

The following website convention wont be analysed because the site doesn’t have them.• Menu bar• Images • Music or music

video• No memberships

Logo/ Banner Font style/ size/ colour

Like the killer website there is very little text to analyse to find any connotations, as both seem to try to use more multimedia instead to engage the audience.

The audience will usually look at the top of page first so the banner was placed in the top middle of the page so the audience will see it first and instantly recognize it as the pigeon detectives banner and website.

Background Suitable URL

The fact that there background is just a plain black with an black and white image of the band on stage, connotes there music maybe a bit dark and gloomy. Also the fact there background resembles those very old black and white pictures may connote that the elderly audience aged 60 and above may also like there music.

Like I said in analysis of The Killers site The URL is a key convention of a website, which usually has the band name in it, and allows the audience to easily get to the website and remember there URL.

News Feeds

Like the killers site they have some sort of news feed that allows the audience to follow what the band is doing. Where the killers have a calendar like system that informs the audience as to what they’ll be doing (example tours, producing next album), when, and where, the pigeon detectives on the other hand have just a YouTube video stating they’ll be in new york producing there 3rd

album. Thanks to YouTube the band can easily keep there audience informed, it also allows them to upload and share there music/videos with the world for free.

Hyperlinks

This site consists of only a single page so there isn't any point in a menu bar, however they do have links to other sites like Facebook, MySpace, Tweeter. The fact they have a presence on these social networking sites means they’ll be able to use viral marketing to target there audience.

This site does have sound with the YouTube video but like the killers site they don’t have any of there music they cant engage the audience with it in order to keep them on the site, and make sales. However they do provide hyperlinks to there records labels site: http://dancetotheradio.bigcartel.com/artist/the-pigeon-detectives were the audience can purchase their music.
