Ancient Egypt : Daily Life along the River NileThursday 5 October 2017 (4.00pm - 5.30pm)

Discover the role the River Nile had in allowing the ancient Egyptian civilisation to flourish and examine daily life, comparing it to our own. This fun and interactive CPD has been inspired by the ancient Egyptian artefacts on display in the Ancient Egypt: Life along the River Nile exhibition. This session includes the opportunity to listen to and question real experts, to network with teachers from other schools in the borough and to also sample Egyptian themed refreshments too!

Help your students gain an in-depth knowledge of ancient Egyptian life by examining and handling real and replica objects. Content includes; canopic jars, amulets, jewellery, books and DVD.

Meet experts: • Sarah Hodgkinson, Museum Curator

and Collections Manager, will provide an introduction to the exhibition.

• Egyptologist Dr. Victoria Entwistle will give a lively talk exploring themes from the exhibition.

• Work with freelance artist Alison Cooper and try out some hands-on ancient Egyptian inspired cross-curricular activities to make and take back to the classroom.

National Curriculum links: • KS2 History: study the achievements of

the earliest civilisations and an in depth study of Ancient Egypt.

• KS2 Design & Technology: select from and use a wide range of materials.
