Enter up to five (5) original color slides (35mm or larger, preferably in clear plastic pages), color or black-and-white prints (8x10 or larger), or digital prints (81⁄2 x 11) accompanied by a CD-ROM with at least 300 pixel-per-inch resolution at 4x5 or larger size. Send to: TRAINS magazine Photo Contest, P.O. Box 1612, Waukesha, WI 53187.
>> 2. Digital images may be altered as far as cropping, dodging, burning, or color correction, but elements (wires, etc.) may not be removed, added (people, etc.), or materially altered (“turning on” a headlight, etc.).
>> 3. Contestants must include their name, address, a daytime phone number, and basic caption information on the back of each print. Slide mounts and CD-ROMs must clearly display the photographer’s name. Do not put any identifying information on the front of prints; doing so will disqualify the entry.
>> 4. Photos must be taken between Nov. 1, 2008, and Oct. 31, 2009 to be eligible.
>> 5. Envelopes marked for the photo contest must include only photos and materials related to the contest.
>> 6. All entries must be received at the TRAINS offices by Oct. 31, 2009. Sug-gested mailing date: Oct. 26.
>> 7. Winning photos will be published in TRAINS’ March 2010 issue.
>> 8. TRAINS reserves the right to retain electronic copies for future publica-tion, use as a contest gallery exhibition on the TRAINS magazine or Canon U.S.A. Web sites, or for public exhibition. In all cases, the photographer retains the copyright to the image.
>> 9. Contestants must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if they want their photos returned.
>> 10. TRAINS and Canon U.S.A. staff members will judge photos on a “blind” basis, meaning they will not know the identities of the entrants.
>> 11. Multiple prizes will not be awarded to any individual.
>> 12. Employees of Kalmbach Publishing Co. or Canon U.S.A. or their families are not eligible to enter.
>> 13. Cameras shown are those currently available. Actual prizes to be awarded will be those shown or better.

2009 Photo Contest2009 Photo Contest>> Review the photos you’ve taken since Nov. 1, 2008 — or take new ones before Oct. 31, 2009 — and choose fi ve, or fewer, that best illustrate the theme “bridging the gap.”
>> Judges will be looking for intriguing composition and effective use of light, as well as inspiring and creative images. After choos-ing the winners, TRAINS staff members will request those photogra-phers to submit a short paragraph describing their interpretation of how their photo exemplifi es the theme “bridging the gap.”
>> Winners will be announced in the March 2010 issue.
