ME Bankand Ricoh
ME Bank can send less work out to print suppliers
thanks to its powerful new in-house print arsenal, led by
a Ricoh Pro C901S digital colour press.
The 700-staff financial company recently relocated its head office across the Melbourne CBD from Collins St to its new home in Melbourne Central Tower.
As part of the move, it has established an in-plant [printroom] to
house the Ricoh production digital press, which has also been spec’d
out with a GBC StreamPunch and ring binder for inline finishing.
ME Bank also plumped for around a dozen Ricoh AficiotmMP C7501
multifunction colour devices across different floors.
Stephen Edwards, ME Bank’s manager of corporate logistics and print,
told ProPrint that as well as producing material traditionally done
in-house, such as reports and board papers, the Ricoh Pro C901s
would be used for more sophisticated jobs such as short-run direct
marketing campaigns.
“We can look at things like doing DL flyers: print them all and trim
them up rather than sending a file off to a printer to get commercially
printed then sent to a mail house. We can do that here with our own
mail house and print room,” he said.
Edwards said Ricoh had also installed an Equitrac system for
‘Follow-You Printing’ at the new site, allowing staff to log in to
any machine in the building to collect their print jobs.
He said the in-house approach also had a benefit in terms of data
security. “The integrity of our customer data is maintained. Customer
privacy is one of our big concerns; if we can keep it in-house, it keeps
the Risk Management team happy.”
Mark Katrakis, Ricoh’s National Business Development Manager for
production solutions, said: “The good part about this was it was a
development of a CRD [central reprographics department]. They didn’t
have an existing print room; this was not a replacement but looking at
reducing costs and becoming more efficient.”
He added that ME Bank had also installed EFI’s Digital StoreFront
system for internal online ordering.
The Ricoh Pro C901s is the scanner version of Ricoh’s flagship
digital colour press. It prints at up to 90 pages per minute on stocks
up to 300 gsm.
