Patterson Memorial Library to hold Wednesday MakerSpaces The Patterson Memorial Library announced today a series of MakerSpaces to be held at the library the third Wednesday of every month from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. “There is a misconception that a MakerSpace is only for high tech creating,” said Library Director Kent Barnard. “That statement is simply not true. A MakerSpace is simply a space in which you can come and create something. The emphasis lately is on fun things like 3D printers, but as long as you’re creating, it is a MakerSpace.” The library will feature a different project or projects on MakerSpace days – which will run the gamut from some high tech fun (learn to solder, learn about circuits, build a brushbot), to old fashioned fun like building a kite with paper, sticks and glue; learning basic sewing techniques; and quilting. “We already have Card Creators on the second Tuesday of the month from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m., where two of our staff teach you how

to build a card, then you can build your own. We have a Learn to Knit group that meets every Thursday at 1 p.m.,” said Barnard. “These are MakerSpaces –we just haven’t told any of the participants.” On MakerSpace days, the library will hang a banner on the East side entrance to encourage participation. “We’re hoping people come in to try something new, and if folks have a hobby they’d like to share, it would be fantastic. We’re hoping to have a Maker Faire with lots of different things – fly tying, model rockets, toy soldiers, model cars. We want everyone to bring in something of interest that they made because you never know who might be interested in what you do, but no idea how to get started,” added Barnard. Sign-up sheets for the Card Creators are located in the Patterson Memorial Library or register by calling 920-622-3835. Registration is not required for the Wednesday MakerSpace Projects.
