Andrew Steinberg Saxophone Andrew Steinberg is a New Jersey based saxophonist, performing throughout the country. Currently he is pursuing a degree in Music Education at Rutgers University on scholarship. His teachers have included Dr. Paul Cohen and Frank Amato, as well as lessons with James Houlik, Ron Caravan, Patrick Meighan, and John Moore. Throughout his career Andrew has undertaken many great opportunities, including: attending Manhattan School of Music Precollege, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall, NJPAC and the Yamaha Piano Salon. In addition to this, he has worked with world-renown conductors, composers and instrumentalists. Some of these include Mark Scatterday, Bruce Yurko, Samuel Hazo, Todd Nichols, Brad Genevero, Ed Lisk, Phil Smith, and Joe Alessi. He has also attended workshops and masterclasses with Claude Delangle, the Rascher Saxophone Quartet, Patrick Meighan, Jeff Scott, Sato Moughalian, John Moore, David Krakauer, Monica Ellis, and Paquito D'Rivera. While still in high school, he was a recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, as well as the James Dickson-Carr Music Scholarship. He has traveled to Chicago to perform in the Midwest Band Clinic, Indiannapolis to perform in the Music for All Festival, New Albany, Indiana for the annual Trio Bel Canto Workshop, and most recently to New York City for the Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival at Juilliard. This past year was especially fruitful, as Andrew participated at the NASA conference in West Point as a soloist as well as with the Rutgers Saxophone Quartet. There he performed Joseph Trapanese's Capriccio for Tenor Sax and Piano, which the composer, upon hearing the recording, remarked how he "enjoyed the attention to detail...his altissimo playing is fantastic! This is by far one of the best performances of the work I've had so far, if not the best." In addition to this, Andrew gave a recital where he performed works by Jacobi, Hartley, Cowell, Glass,

and a recently rediscovered concerto for Tenor Saxophone. On top of his work as a soloist and a quartet member, Andrew is actively involved in chamber music. Performing works with viola and piano, string quartet, as well as mixed ensembles on a regular basis. While at Juilliard participating in the Imani Winds Chamber Festival, he gave the North American premiere of a new work for flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, and piano by Josh Hummel, which was met with great acclaim from composer and audience alike. This upcoming season, he will be giving a recital of music for saxophone and string quartet, including the premiere of a new work by Erich Stem. After hearing Andrew's playing at the Trio Bel Canto Saxophone workshop, Dr. Stem remarked "he's got a terrific sound..nice tone!"
