I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Recently, Dale Morris took me to see Andy Gibson and I was happy to tag along… and then- the music started-WOW- in that moment I knew the reason I was there. I got to see and hear the making of a superstar. Song after song, I was blown away by his songs, his voice and his passion. I cannot wait to hear more! -Louis Messina, President, TMG/AEG Live

Where were you born? Where do you live now?

I was born in Spokane, WA, but our family moved around a lot because of my dad’s work. I’m glad to call Nashville my home now, having lived here longer than pretty much any other place I’ve been.

Who were your biggest influences when you first started playing?

My father was definitely my biggest musical influence growing up. From a young age, I remember my Dad coming home from work every night, putting on some old classics and playing bass or electric guitar while I jammed out on my makeshift cigar box guitar.

Who are some of your favorite country artists?

I grew up on older country like Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. Some of my other favorites were Vince Gill, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Dwight Yoakam and Wynonna Judd.

Who are some of your favorite artists in other formats?

My musical taste is all over the place. I love everything from The Beatles, Richard Marx, Aerosmith, Huey Lewis, Soundgarden, Michael McDonald, Glen Campbell, Mariah Carey, Roy Orbison. I could go on and on. I love music!

What is your favorite part of playing live?

What I love about playing live is the energy you feel when you are connecting with the audience. To be able to go out on stage or even on the back porch of a friend’s house and get everybody worked up over a song is just cool.

Tell us about your songwriting process…

Writing songs is always fun because it never happens the same ay twice. One day you might be a lyricist, the next time you’re on the melody or you come in with a hook. It’s always differen’t and I like it that way.

Some of my favorite songs have fallen right into my lap. Others, like the Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson duet, “Don’t You Wanna Stay,” were real labor of love. When we wrote that song, we thought we had and awesome melody and great title right off the bat, but we really put some time into keeping the lyric simple and real. The fact that is was a multi-week #1 was really gratifying.

Name one thing people might be surprised to know about you.

People are always shocked to find out that I am fluent in Spanish. I’ve always had an ear for accents and language and it came in handy during high school Spanish. Most of the Latin people don’t believe me when I tell them I’m not a native speaker.
