13.12.2019 Staffing News I’m sure most of you know Mr.Johnson as he has worked across both schools for the last few years. We are very sad to say that Mr.Johnson will be leaving us at Christmas for pastures new. We shall be very sad to see him go, but wish him all the best in his new job. Christmas Community Carol Singing As you are all aware, due to the awful weather conditions yesterday, we have had to re-schedule the carol service until Monday. Our Christmas Community Carol Singing will now take place on Monday 16th December at 5.30pm-6.30pm (16/12/19 at 17.30-18.30). Please arrive promptly. We will be singing songs and celebrating with music and festive refreshments. As Christmas is traditionally a time for thinking of others less fortunate than ourselves, entry to the event will be a donation of a bag of sugar per family which we will give to St Martins Homeless Shelter. We would be so grateful for donations of festive cakes such as mince pies! If you are feeling brave we have attached a fab mince pie recipe!! Please wear warm clothes, bring torches (and maybe umbrellas!) As this is an event which is out of school hours, we must ask that Mums, Dads and carers take full responsibility for their children and keep them with you at all times and remember that it is likely to be quite dark.. Junior Christmas Musical Sing-along on Wednesday 18.12.2019 at 15:30 to16:30h Please come and join us in the hall for a festive sing song. Our ukulele and steel pan bands will perform and then we will all sing a selection of Christmas songs together. We will also be holding a bake sale and would really appreciate donations of homemade/shop bought cakes and mince pies on the day. We have attached a fab mince pie recipe!! Please bring cakes and your loudest singing voices! Flu Immunisations If your child missed the opportunity to have their flu spray at school, please call the immunisation team on 0300 555 5055. The team are offering extra sessions. Year 3 Christmas Reminders Year 3 would like to remind parents and family members that they are invited to the Y3 Christmas Carol Service on Monday 16th December at Rosebery Road Church. The church are providing refreshments for parents and family members after the service. The final posting day for the Year 3 Christmas Postbox will be Monday 16th December. MINCE PIE RECIPE INGREDIENTS: 225g cold butter 350g plain flour

100g golden caster sugar 280g sweet mincemeat (fruit) 1 small egg Icing sugar, to dust

METHOD:

To make the pastry, rub 225g cold, diced butter into 350g plain flour, then mix in 100g golden caster sugar and a pinch of salt. Combine the pastry into a ball – don’t add liquid – and knead it briefly. The dough will be fairly firm, like shortbread dough. You can use the dough immediately, or chill for later. Preheat the oven to 200C/gas 6/fan 180C. Line 18 holes of two 12-hole patty tins, by pressing small walnut-sized balls of pastry into each hole. Spoon 280g mincemeat into the pies. Take slightly smaller balls of pastry than before and pat them out between your hands to make round lids, big enough to cover the pies. Top the pies with their lids, pressing the edges gently together to seal – you don’t need to seal them with milk or egg as they will stick on their own. (The pies may now be frozen for up to 1 month). Beat 1 small egg and brush the tops of the pies. Bake for 20 mins until golden. Leave to cool in the tin for 5 mins, then remove to a wire rack. To serve, lightly dust with icing sugar. They will keep for 3 to 4 days in an airtight container

Our Motto is “Solidarity not Charity”

This means we not only help, but also campaign politically for all governments to extend free school meals into the holiday, or, to increase benefits to compensate parents during holidays for the loss of free school meals. Our union Unite is leading this campaign. In addition, whatever government comes in, we will continue to fight for a fully funded school system, and, for a benefit system that helps, and doesn’t hurt, claimants.
