Meet Father Paul & Helen. Early last year I was approached by Bishop John Ford (the Bishop of the Murray) who asked me to consider the possibility of taking up the appointment of Priest of the Parish District of the Riverland. After much prayer and discussion with Helen I decided to take up the call. Helen & I moved to the Riverland at the end of July. My induc- tion was held at St James Waikerie on August the 8th. We live in the Rectory at Renmark, on the banks of the Murray River, and have been enjoying exploring the area and the vari- ous towns in the Riverland. Prior to my appointment to the Riverland, I was Priest Assistant of the Pastoral District of the Southern Vales, living in McLaren Vale. I was there for four years after I was ordained in 2010. Prior to being ordained a priest, I was a journalist/presenter and in management with the ABC for 25 years. In the late 1980’s, whilst working in the Adelaide newsroom, I would fill in for the local journalists in the Riverland for several weeks at a time. In my spare time I enjoy swimming . I try to get to the pool as often as I can. Helen and I both attend gym classes at the Recreational Centre in Renmark and are looking for ways in which we can enjoy and spend time on the river. If I can talk Helen into it, canoeing could be a possibility! Helen & I would like to thank Parishioners from each of the Centres, Renmark, Berri, Monash, Barmera, Loxton and Waikerie for the warm welcome we have received. We feel truly blessed and look forward to continuing to work with you as we seek to proclaim to our commu- nities in the Riverland the Good News of the Kingdom. Meet Father Paul & Helen. Early last year I was approached by Bishop John Ford (the

Bishop of the Murray) who asked me to consider the possibility

of taking up the appointment of Priest of the Parish District of

the Riverland. After much prayer and discussion with Helen I

decided to take up the call.

Helen & I moved to the Riverland at the end of July. My induc-

tion was held at St James Waikerie on August the 8th.

We live in the Rectory at Renmark, on the banks of the Murray

River, and have been enjoying exploring the area and the vari-

ous towns in the Riverland.

Prior to my appointment to the Riverland, I was Priest Assistant

of the Pastoral District of the Southern Vales, living in McLaren

Vale. I was there for four years after I was ordained in 2010.

Prior to being ordained a priest, I was a journalist/presenter and

in management with the ABC for 25 years. In the late 1980’s,

World Day of Prayer

The World day of prayer

service this year was devel-

oped by the Bahamas

World Day of Prayer Com-

mittee

St Albans Berri hosted an

ecumenical service, led by

Nerida Stanton.

The church was also

beautifully decorated by

Nerida, and Rosemary

Kassebaum spoke about the

Bahamas during the

servicewhich was attended

by about. 30 people.

St Augustines at

Renmark, also hosted

a service, led by Ruth

Daws, who also deco-

rated the Church.

Helen Devenport was

the guest Speaker,

and representatives

from all the churches

in Renmark took

part in the service.

Nearly 50 people at-

tended this service.

Father Paul read the

lesson, and gave the

blessing..

Following the service,

morning tea was held

in the beautiful gar-

den outside.

Services for World

day of Prayer were

also held in Loxton,

Waikerie and Bar-

mera.

Some things to think about:

If you are headed in the wrong direction. God allows U turns.

Come work for the Lord. The work is hard, the hours are long and the pay is low, BUT the

Retirement benefits are out of this world.

IS THERE ANYTHING THE CHURCH CAN DO FOR YOU? Personally, I think the hardest thing a lapsed Christian faces, is actually walking through the

front doors of the Church that we used to regularly attend. One thinks, what will the other people

inside think, Is she sick? Is she in trouble? or what is she doing here?

I would hope that if you walked into any Anglican Church in the Riverland, you would be made

to feel instantly welcome, and feel at home. That is our promise to you. Come and see if we

keep that promise.

Easter is nearly here again this year, and I wonder, what happened to the weeks between Christ-

mas and now. They have just flown. Service times for all the Riverland Churches for Easter are

listed on the back of this newsletter, and we would love for you to join us at any of these services.

Father Paul will certainly be busy, with 6 centres to minister to. Let’s make it worth all his travel

time to show our support and lets try to grow our church with his help. He can’t do it on his own

though, he needs all of us to help.

There are many people in the Riverland who claim to be Anglican, but sadly we don’t see them

very often. There is a saying “Does it take 6 strong men to get you back into Church?” It

would be nice if we made that decision for ourselves.

If you would like anyone to speak to anyone, or would like to be visited, please contact one of the

wardens, whose names you will find on the Back page.

If you would like to make a donation to the church, please either come along, and add to the

collection, or send it to ..Box 1194, Renmark, SA 5341 or BSB 105059 Acc No: 040790840

ABM’S Lenten appeal this year is going towards supporting the people of Kenya

In Kenya communities face many challenges such as harsh climate conditions, poverty, high un-

employment, civil unrest and violence. Since 2009 ABM has been working in partnership with

the Anglican Development Services Eastern (ADSE) the development arm of the Anglican

Church of Kenya.

ADSE was established in 1983 and has been implementing community development projects in

the country’s arid and semi arid lands for many years. Their work aims to improve the livelihoods

of communities making them more resilient to the effects of climate change. The Qanauni Liveli-

hood Improvement project is an integrated one covering areas such as food security, water and

sanitation, micro enterprise development, HIV/AIDS awareness, and environmental conservation.

ABM works with the Diocese of Machakos and Mukueni, mainly in community development

and in the Diocese of Bungoma.

The Right Reverend Joseph Kanuku former Bishop of Machakos says “According to John 10:10,

Jesus came so that we may have life and life in abundance. When we have life in abundance,

there’s no starvation so we have eternal life and we have life here on earth.

He hopes that the partnership between ABM and the Church will grow and continue to bring trans-

formation into the lives of people as there is much more work to be done in Kenya.

The Baptism of Jack Howie Jarman, was

held at St. Augustine’s Renmark on Sun-

day 15th March. Jack Jarman’s great

grandfather, Jack Howie, was a pastoral

assistant at St Augustine’s for many

years. nnThe stained glass window at the

back of the church is in honour of him.

Pictured are parents Mark and Sarah

Jarman, with god parents Martin Howie

and Tennille Gould along with Jack Howie Jarman, Fr Paul and PA assistant Lee Stanford.
