The Mano Art Show – Wednesday 6th September 5-7 pm

We invite all school community members and friends to come

along and be amazed by the talents of our students on show at

this event. Family decorated fish have been coming in and they

promise to make an awesome display. There will be a coffee

van onsite and we ask for a gold coin donation upon entry to the

Art Show, helping us to replenish the Art Room resources.

School Review

Parents wishing to meet our School Review Panel to reflect

over the past four years of school operations are welcome to

join us on Monday 4th September at 10am in the school library.

School Council have just had an extraordinary meeting to reflect

on the 80 page Self Evaluation Report.

Tom Lonergan Visit – Signed Footballs

On Monday at assembly we were thrilled to have Geelong Cats

champion Tom Lonergan visit. He spoke of his schooling,

football career and the upcoming finals series. He signed two

footballs which will be used as prizes for a competition – guess

Geelong’s score in the upcoming game vs Richmond at the

MCG Friday 8th September. Guesses can be submitted in the

box located at the Office.

Testing & Tagging

Each year we are required to have electrical appliances tested

and tagged. This is to ensure that items are not in use in the

school if they are dangerous (eg: frayed cords). It also helps us

to audit the whereabouts of all such items.

Book Fair

Many thanks to all of the families who shopped at the Book Fair

last week during Literacy and Numeracy Week. Families spent

$4,400 and the school has received a 40% commission to

purchase additional library resources.

Evacuation Drill

Another matter which requires our annual attention, is to

practice emergency evacuations. This week we conducted an

offsite evacuation to Peter Lowe Reserve just before recess on

Monday morning. Students were most responsible and should

we ever have a gas leak, fire or such, we should be ready to

respond accordingly and promptly.

Victorian State School Spectacular

Our State Schools Spectacular team are getting excited with

only 2 weeks until the rehearsals and performance at Hisense

Arena, Melbourne. This will be a lifelong memory and tickets are

still on sale from www.ticketek.com.au/spectacular/ . Thank you

to Mrs Orford in particular who makes the Victorian State

School Spectacular possible for our students.

Father’s/Special Person’s Day Stall

Today and tomorrow students can shop for gifts (all $5) and I

have seen some exciting creations in classes being made this

week too. A very happy day on Sunday to all the Mano Fathers/

Special Persons.

Looking for ideas on how to help your children with Literacy and Numeracy at home?

This week attached to the newsletter are two information brochures with some ideas on how to help your children at home in

Writing and Mathematics (Addition and Subtraction Strategies).

VCOP (Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation) is an approach to teaching and improving students writing that we

are beginning to use at Mano. It is based on the idea that ‘If you can’t say it, you can’t write it!’ and focuses on developing

students oral language as well as their understanding of how to improve their own writing through grammar, punctuation and more

interesting vocabulary.

Read the brochure to find out more!

Library News

The Book Fair during our Literacy and Numeracy week was very eventful. Students always

look forward to browsing the books on display and spending time reading and sharing their opinions

about their favourite books.

It was a very successful Book Fair as we sold over $4000 worth of books and the school receives

40% of profits which will go towards purchasing lots of new and exciting books for our school Library.

A very big thank you to all the staff who came together during a very busy week and contributed to making our Book Fair a

successful community event.

SCHOOL BANKING School Banking day is FRIDAY Remember, Friday is School Banking day and students should bring in their weekly deposit. For every deposit made at school, students will receive a silver Dollarmites token. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an exclusive School Banking reward item in recognition of their regular savings habits. School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school, raising 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit). If your child has lost their book, they can bring their money to school in a sealed envelope with a note on the next School Banking day. We will issue them with a replacement. Win a family adventure holiday at Tokyo Disneyland! This year, School Banking is running a Future Savers Grand Prize competition that will take one lucky School Banker all the way to Tokyo, Japan. The winner gets an unforgettable family trip, for up to two adults and three children, where they’ll explore Tokyo Disneyland with its amazing attractions, including the futuristic Tomorrowland, plus enjoy the fun rides at Tokyo DisneySea. Students who make 15 or more School Banking deposits by the end of Term 3, 2017 will be automatically entered into the draw. This is another great way to motivate students to save regularly and reach their savings goals.

If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2017 School Banking program information pack from the school
