Zookeepers Jobs

• Keepers, who work in zoos, provide direct care for animals.

• Their daily job includes feeding, cleaning, enrichment, training, monitoring animal health, and educating visitors.

• Zoo keepers care for different types of animals such as mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates.

Zookeepers

• There are three kinds of zookeepers at a zoo.• Head zookeepers supervise a section or a

department of the institution. They also provide training and scheduling for keepers.

• Senior keepers are found in each department and provide primary animal care to the animals in their department.

• Keepers provide daily care to the institution’s animals, including diet preparation, cleaning general exhibit maintenance, and record keeping.

Caribbean Flamingo

• The Caribbean Flamingo is the “brightest” of all flamingos

• It shows it’s true colors of red, pink, or orange on it’s legs, bill and face.

• They eat flies, shrimp and mollusks.

Swamp Monkeys

• They have webbed feet to paddle in the water.

• Live near water. • Love to have company and play with each

other • Swamp monkeys have gray and green skin. • Swamp monkeys make a grunting noise to

maintain contact between members of the group.

American Alligators

• The alligators eat fish, turtles, mammals, and birds.

• The name “alligator’’ comes from the Spanish word el legarto meaning “the lizard.’’

• When alligators hatch from their eggs, alligators are ten inches long and black with yellow stripes and splotches.
