STUDENT TRAVEL INSURANCE
2015
Am I insured by Portsmouth University?
• University Insurance covers all students on authorised placements/exchange visits - no additional cost to you.

Who are the University Insurers?
• Policy renews 1 August 2014
• Summary of cover will on the University Study Abroad web-site usually early July.
• Your responsibility for checking the cover meets your needs.
Where are we insured to travel?
• World-wide for travel up to 12 months away from the UK but……..
• NOT if FCO recommend against travel or if sanctions have been imposed by UK.
Holidays…• Incidental holidays are covered up to a
maximum of 14 days for any trip. If holiday time is longer you will need separate personal holiday insurance.
• If extreme sports are included in the holiday, separate specific sports cover should be purchased.
Medical Expenses/Repatriation
• If applicable make sure you get your European Health Insurance Card.

• Call Emergency Medical Helpline if possible prior to seeking medical treatment. Failure to call them could invalidate your insurance.
• Where possible they take over medical care including organising hospitalisation/treatment/advice/return.
• Limited capabilities in certain regions • Exclude journeys against medical advice • Not private medical Insurance.
Host University requirements.
• It is important that you check with your host University whether they have any local insurance requirements.
• Some Universities make it an enrolment requirement that incoming students purchase their own health insurance cover.
• They won’t accept University of Portsmouth travel cover. This is at students own cost which is some cases is considerable
Cancellation/Curtailment
• Cover if a trip has to be cancelled or cut short as a direct result of a cause which is outside your control.
• Exclude failure of airline/events known about/disinclination to travel.
• E.g – accident or illness just before due to leave UK.
Travel Insurance – What are we insured for?
Personal effects/money:
• Personal belongings • Emergency replacement of visa, passport etc• Must report to police within 48 hours.• Property irregularity report from airline• Be vigilant and don’t display obvious signs
of wealth.
