8/8/2019 Anna Baltzer talk in Japan (Flyer, reverse side)
1/1
The ethnic cleansing of Palestine is happening right now. Not only have the massacres and expulsions of the past never been officially acknowledged,
but the Nakba continues today with every destroyed home and Palestinian emigrant. However, the unwavering resistance and resi lience of the remaining
Palestinian population have, so far, ensured that Israels ethnic cleansing of Pal estine remains incomplete. It is up to all of us to ensure that the
Palestinians steadfast struggle for survival and freedom has not been in vain.
This is a struggle for justice. It affects all of us, all of us are involved. As Dr. Martin Luther King said, injustice anywhere is a threat to justice
everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.
Nothing will Stop Humans Anna Baltzer
Anna Baltzer Anna Baltzer, human rights activist and campaigner, granddaughter of a Nazi Holocaust survivor, joined the
International Women's Peace Service in 2003 to volunteer in Palestine under Israeli occupation. She
returned repeatedly to experience the reality of the occupation, living and working with farmers and
Palestinian and Israeli activists, and the families of political prisoners. Her experiences, which led her to a
sharp critique of US and Israeli policy in Palestine, are detailed in the reportage, Witness in Palestine: A
Jewish American Woman in the Occupied Territories , were praised highly by Noam Chomsky and others.
Even those who are familiar with the grim reality of the occupied territories wil l quickly be
drawn into a world they had barely imagined by these vivid, searingly honest, intensely
acute portrayals. NOAM CHOMSKY

The Occupation, witnessed by Anna Baltzer
Since 2003, the reality of life in Occupied Palestine has been witnessed by the eyes of a Jewish
American woman, and it has changed her life irrevocably. As a Jew, as an American, as a woman,
and simply as Anna Baltzer, she wanted to let the world know that reality: how the state of
Israel and the US, with its aid and weapons justified many forms of violence against Palestinians.
When I tell most people in the United States that Im wor king in the West Bank, they always
ask me the same question: Which side are you on, the Palestinian or the Israeli? I never
know what to answer; the question sounds so absurd to me. This is not a struggle between
Palestinians and Israelis, its a struggle for freedom and basic human rights. So which side
am I on? I am on the side of human dignity and self-determination. I am on the side of those
who seek equal rights for all, regardless of religion, nationality, or ethnicity. This is the
struggle of everyone sharing those ideals, even if today the victims are Palestinian. Tomorrow
they could be you. This is your struggle, too. For Anna, Mass propaganda has succeeded in
equating the Israeli government and army with the Jewish people: a criticism of one has
become a criticism of the other. occupying Arab populations has nothing to do with
Judaism or Americanism. Being Jewish or Israeli doesnt have to mean unconditionally
supporting the actions of the Israeli government any more than being American means
unconditionally supporting the actions of the United States government. . Israels
Occupation, she argues, puts the Jewish state at greater risk than ever. It has resulted
in disapproval and resentment on an international scale; in ever-inc reasing loss of life,
liberty, democracy and human security in the region; in undermining the Jewish
tradition of humanitarianism and social justice; in creating a dependence on US
military aid that cannot be sustained indefinitely .
Anna Baltzer is visiting Japan at the invitation of JALT and other supporting institutions.
This is a special opportunity to meet her and hear her talking about the truth. We look
forward to welcoming you.
