Trophies GaloreThe middle of August saw yet anotherpreseason tournament and yet anothersuccessful weekend for the Kraze Krush teams.

Over the August 15-16 weekend FKK sent 47 teams up to various regions of Jacksonville to compete in the Florida Elite Invitational hosted by FESA. The club was well represented with 11 teams winning it all, six more making it to the finals and others taking the top spot in the showcase divisions!

Coach Omar Vallejo of the 2010 and 2009 Kraze PreECNL Boys said, “The FESA Tournament is an event that our players and teams always look forward to. It provided us with the opportunity to play against good competition, improve our match fitness, and in this special case, allowed our players to feel like we are slowly but surely getting back to normal."

COVID Q&A with Mark HansenFKK Director of Soccer Operations

Q: The club restarted its operations for the fall towards the end of July. How successful do you feel this opening month has been?

A: When we restarted operations our goal has always been simple, how do we get the kids back to playing and on the field? A lot has gone into it at this point but when you keep the kids at the heart of your decisions it is easy to adjust/move forward when that is your goal. So with that said, as of today, we are on the fields and kids are playing the game they love so I feel we have to be happy with it. It is a constant battle, we know we can't let our guard down, but we are happy to see the kids out doing what they love.

Q: What precautions has the club implemented to ensure the safety of our members?

A: We have numerous precautions that are implemented for all different aspects of our membership (Staff, Players, Parents/Spectators/ Referees). 1) Elimination of hydration stations.....this cuts out shared surfaces and although hydration is a necessary aspect of outdoor sports in Florida and we wish we can do more for our members the risk associated with something like this would be too high right now.2) Spacing out of personal belongings on sidelines....this allows players to feel safe when they go to get water during breaks or during games3) Temperature checks of all individuals involved (Staff/Players/Referees)

Q: What have you been encouraged by as far as the club and communities response over the past couple months?

A: I have been encouraged by the unification of our club and membership in ways to ensure our kids can play this game.

This year the IFAB (International Football Association Board) implemented a number of clarifications and amendments to the rules of the game. Let’s break them down.

1. No attacking player can be within one yard of a defensive wall when it has three or more players.

2. Goal kicks do not have to leave the 18-yard box before being touched by another player.

3. Goalkeepers must have at least one foot on the goal line when the penalty is taken.

4. No goal can be allowed if the ball strikes an attacker’s hand during the build up.

Q: This has never been a unilateral decision. Can you talk about the process that went into creating these protocols and decisions?

A: This definitely is not a unilateral decision. We were fortunate enough to have individuals in our club who work day in and day out in the health care profession and are on the frontlines who volunteered to help us (Directors) out with formulating a plan to return to play. Countless meetings and emails were exchanged and continue to be exchanged as we are constantly evaluating the local temperature on COVID and making sure that FKK stays at the forefront with regards to player safety.
