Our mobile-friendly website offers a wealth of information, applications for grants and scholarships, donor stories, and secure online giving. www.cfopc.org
It’s been an exciting couple of years for your community foundation! This two-year report attempts to summarize the generosity of many individuals during this period, the resulting impact, and how our community foundation is growing with you.
Philanthropy has blossomed in our communities thanks to caring individuals, businesses, and Lilly Endowment Inc. The Endowment’s new GIFT challenge offered Pulaski County up to $500,000 in matching funds, triggering several new efforts. One such effort was coordinating the county’s first #GivingTuesday, a collective giving day.
The Community Foundation underwent several visible upgrades with a new website, revised name, logo, vision, and commitment statements. The Community Foundation Internship program enabled us to hire a local college student who assisted with communications projects in the summer.
Because of generous donations over the years, distributionsfrom endowed funds for the two years combined totaled $469,774! Additionally, scholarships awarded in 2014 and 2015 equaled $115,930. The Community Foundation now manages over 100 separate funds with five new scholarships and six other endowed funds established during the past two years.
On behalf of the Community Foundation of Pulaski County, thank you for your continued support in assisting our county’sgrowth. Together we are making a difference in our community!
Don Street Wendy G Rose PRESIDENT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
In early fall of 2014, Lilly Endowment Inc. made an exciting announcement – a sixth phase of the GIFT initiative for Indiana community foundations! This opportunity offered our foundation up to $500,000 in matching funds with a deadline of March 31, 2016.
Gifts for unrestricted endowments would receive the greatest match and provide the greatest flexibility for responding to ever-changing local needs.
The General Unrestricted Fund name was changed to “Community Grants Fund” to better convey use of the fund’s annual earnings. This endowment makes annual grant cycles possible for projects and programs that address community needs and quality of life.
All Community Foundation special events and fundraising activities over the two years focused on helping CFPC “Make the match, Light the Future!”

EXECUTIVE MESSAGE

Community Foundation of Pulaski County
100TH BIRTHDAY! Over one hundred years ago in 1914, the community foundation concept was born. Since then, more than 700 community foundations have come into existence across the country, and over 1700 worldwide. As place-based organizations that focus collective assets for community betterment, community foundations help people of all means give back and make a difference locally and internationally.
The centennial birthday was celebrated in 2014 at Eastern Pulaski Elementary School under its new YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL mural made possible with a CFPC grant. Students explained the artwork during the program and other grantees offered project displays. Old-time games and party treats were featured in observance of the 100th year, and friends of the foundation gave gifts of $100 and up to recognize the milestone (see pages 10-11).
FUN AND INSPIRATION The 2015 annual Celebration of Philanthropy combined fun, information, and inspiration when the Community Foundation recognized its 18th year in 2015. Local craftsmen and businesses donated a variety of items for a silent auction before the program, creating some friendly rivalries. The top-bid item was a gift basket of Gutwein popcorn!
The highlight of the evening was the uplifting Miracle on Ice program presented by Charlie Adams, former WSBT-TV sports anchor. His passion in sharing the incredible story of the 1980 US Olympic hockey team was contagious, and he left the crowd chanting “USA, USA, USA!” as they had 35 years earlier when the US team was victorious.
All of the evening’s proceeds benefitted the Community Grants Fund and were matched through GIFT VI.

FANS OF PHILANTHROPY CLUBElementary students participated in after-school philanthropy camps at both county schools. They learned about giving time, talent, and treasure through hands-on activities with the help of Phil Anthropy.
Learning was put into practice as they filled Socks of Love with personal items for health care center residents and created bags of nutritious meals and snacks for children in need.
CHARITY GIVEAWAYS Two online charity giveaways were offered as a fun and clever way to bring attention to the Community Foundation’s new name, logo, and website. After viewing a brief video about the updates, individuals completed a survey and selected one charitable organization from a list of those with endowment funds. The organization receiving the most votes won a special one-time grant. Pulaski Animal Center and Friends of the Panhandle Pathway were winners and were congratulated with balloons and bigger-than-life checks for $1,000.
GRADS IN ACTIONHigh School graduates who received Community Foundation scholarships have been offered the opportunity to give back to their community in an annual “Grads in Action” service project for the past five years.
The most recent projects were sorting and bagging food at the Humanitarian Distribution Center, and painting the new Pulaski Animal Center office. All of the youth involved enjoyed sharing their grad-itude!
AG BREAKFASTIndiana Farm Bureau President Don Villwock was the featured speaker at the annual ag breakfast co-sponsored by Purdue Extension and the Community Foundation. Farmers and landowners from around the county attended the event during the 4-H Fair. Villwock’s message encouraged rural residents to invest in their communities to make them places their children and grandchildren can return to.
The Community Foundation joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that brings together the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity worldwide. Held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the shopping events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday inspires people to give back to their communities.
Our goal was to increase the Community Grants Fund by $10,000 through donations made on #GivingTuesday, December 1, 2015. Open houses were hosted on both sides of the county for donors to stop in and deliver individual and company donations. The public was updated on progress throughout the day via the CFPC website, emails, and social media. Final tallies showed more than DOUBLE the goal amount -- $22,801 to be exact – was contributed!
Businesses, employees, customers, students, faculty, and many more joined together to become part of this first #Giving Tuesday impact. And thanks to GIFT VI, Lilly Endowment matched every gift. We believe #GivingTuesday will become part of a great new tradition of generosity for our community!

MELLON PATCH COMMUNITY FUNDLifelong educators and tireless community servants, Chuck and Darlene Mellon chose to extend their positive impact on Francesville and Pulaski County far into the future through the Mellon Patch Community Fund.
In addition to their passion for education, Chuck and Darlene are deeply committed to their community, serving on numerous church-related efforts and community service organizations in Francesville and county-wide. The Mellons know the unrestricted fund will provide charitable support for community needs for years to come, and it will help ensure that their spirit of community involvement will live on.
NEW FUNDS
PULASKI ANIMAL CENTER ENDOWMENT“We believe in the Pulaski Animal Center’s goals to save the lives of lost, abandoned or surrendered animals,” said Peach Roth, speaking for herself and husband, Bill. They also support PAC’s mission to control pet over-population in Pulaski County. After the Animal Center achieved charitable IRS status in 2014, the Roths created the Pulaski Animal Center Endowment to provide annual income for the organization. Bill said, “We like knowing that this fund will be a reliable source of support for PAC’s future.”
RUSSELL-LEDLEY FAMILY FUND“The more we think about it, the happier we are that we took this step. The return on investment for the community will be much greater than what we could accumulate through mere savings account interest!” said MacKenzie Ledley, speaking on behalf of
herself and husband Brian. The Russell-Ledley Family Fund was named with respect to the couple’s families and will benefit charitable causes important to them. “We look forward to continuing to make contributions to benefit the community.”

NEW FUND | 2014ALLEN AND MARY ANN FINKE FAITH FUND“The Allen and Mary Ann Finke Faith Fund represents a lasting thank-you for all that the community has done for me,” said Allen Finke. Having spent his early years in foster homes, Allen was homeless in his mid-teens. After being welcomed into a caring home, he learned “‘family’ is a bigger concept than just relatives – it’s people who care.”
Following high school and military service, Allen returned to Pulaski County, married and started a family, but lost their home in a fire. A few years later, his young business was also destroyed by fire. Many individuals and fellow church
members “lined up to help,” and the acts of kindness and support made a great impact. The endowment will provide ongoing support for missions programs of both the Kewanna and Winamac United Methodist churches.

MICHAEL J. RAUSCH COMMUNITY FUNDMichael Rausch was an outdoorsman, shaped through early years on the farm and time spent hunting, fishing and trapping with family, friends, and later his own sons. His passion for animals led him to become a veterinarian and to establish the Winamac Pet Med Center. Known for making house calls and sharing his time, Dr. Rausch gained a special place in the hearts of many residents.Mike demonstrated his passion and served his community through involvement in local conservation and education activities, presentations at the elementary school, mentoring, 4-H activities, and service on the Town Council and Board of Health.
Although Mike passed away in 2015, his legacy will continue, thanks to the Michael J. Rausch Community Fund, established by brother Steve and wife Barb Rausch. Mike had a great appreciation for the importance of giving back, and they wanted to honor his life in a way that would do the most good. The permanent fund will provide perpetual support for the community by enhancing the number and amount of grants awarded each year to worthy nonprofits and projects.

NEW SCHOLARSHIPSBOWDEN FAMILY STUDENT ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIPSchool athletic competition was important to every member of the Bowden family, from parents Jim and Carol to their four children, Brooks, Shallon, Blake and Blair. In honor of their children and to encourage high school athletes to continue their athletic careers in college, the Bowdens established the Bowden Family Student Athlete Scholarship.
The renewable scholarship will be awarded to a Winamac Community High School graduate who participated in basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, track, or volleyball and who plans to continue athletic pursuits in college.
COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPThe Community Foundation board voted to create an endowed scholarship that would provide an annual award to one student from each county high school every year. With broad eligibility requirements, nearly any graduating senior pursuing higher education can apply. Community Foundation directors invite residents to help build the fund to make larger awards possible each year. The Community Foundation Scholarship was made available for the first time to the Class of 2015 graduates.
DON O. AND MARY M. GOOD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPDon and Mary Good were lifelong advocates of public education, encouraging their four children and ten grandchildren to attend college. Though neither one was able to pursue a college degree, they believed that higher education opens up more employment opportunities and new experiences. The Good’s children created a scholarship in a fitting memorial to their parents. Daughter Dixie said, “We established the Don O. and Mary M. Good Memorial Scholarship in honor of our parents’ devotion to their family, their community, and to making the world a better place.”
TOM HOOVER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPTom Hoover enjoyed working on automobiles, helping lead the 4-H R.C. Cars project, spending time outdoors, and NASCAR racing. He had a hard-work ethic and generous spirit, and after his death in 2010, his wife Kim established the Tom Hoover Memorial Scholarship in his memory.
Kim and sons Kohl and Garrett are certain that their husband and father would be honored to give back to the community he loved. Through the scholarship, Tom’s legacy will assist Pulaski County high school graduates who plan to study in automotive, engineering, vocational, or nature/conservation fields.
